H053 is indeed Hermitage grey, it's a metallic paint but i dont think i would call it a rare colour.
Ute is looking good mate. As for the support bar you can buy them from supercheap for around $25. They are universal fit. I grabbed 2 and refitted 4 brackets on each side of the old one so it would hold the cover abit tighter and wouldn't pool water. Works alot better then just the one
Cheers for the info on the bars. I just purchased one from Holden for $15.40 which was surprisingly cheap for holden. If it ends up pooling water I will go with your idea of the 2x universal bars.
Altezza rear tail lights and VY SS leather seats now on ebay (pm me an offer if interested in either). Have found some different seats that I want!
Fresh lights installed
Are these worth it or plain crap: http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/H4-HID-LO...ht_4685wt_1135
Just purchased a Holley air filter, top gun leads and some NGK spark plugs. Also have a transmission service kit waiting to refresh the lot.

Got the new leads and forgot how horribly annoying and painful they are to install. Stupid stupid stupid Holden for putting the distributor at the rear of the block. VY SS seats sold and suspension going in in two more sleeps.

Suspension is now in. Sits much higher and is a lot smoother over bumps. Turns out that the previous owner decided to put cut springs in the rear with no bump stops!
New list pf shagged parts is in:
5107 trailing arm assembly - 110
5108 trailing arm assembly - 230
P1690 front z bar bushes - 36
5823 rubber bush x2 - 75
5843 rubber bush x2 - 49
Fitting - 310
Wheel alignment - 77
Not sure how many bushes are left after this round of replacements! Holley air filter in and was too pissed off with the above list that I haven't given it a good test.
owww doesn't sound to good, i'm guessing the last owner wasn't the sharpest out there? hahaha
all those bushes are common to go. so far on my ute ive done
lower trailing arm bushes
new upper trailing arms with bushes
needs new panhard bushes, also needs front radius rod to chassis bushes and also a wheel alignment.
so kinda in the same boat as far as suspension goes lol.
I picked up my upper trailing arms with new bushes for $60 off ebay, along with reconditioned lower trailing arms with new superpro bushes pressed in for $90 and installed the lot my self. was gonna cost $400 for mechanics to do the job so i recon i saved a fair bit of coin.
Sounds like a plan! I will accumulate all the parts and try and do most of it myself. The only bit I have got to look into is getting the bush pressed into the trailing arm. Surely a backyard method of doing this is getting around.
Not a great deal of progress with the Ute. Put the new plugs in and bought some interceptors with load rated tyres. Slapped them on the Ute and it doesn't look too bad. I am trying to get away from the young hoon look and trying to make it look clean, standard and capable of moving heavy stuff. May put the old rims up for sale but not sure how much to advertise them for. PM with any offers, tyres still legal.
Not much progress on the Ute lately as I have another project on the go. Still accumulating bits and pieces for the trailing arms etc.
Sold the interceptors as they didn't allow much clearance for the calipers. Back to the AMG rims for a while.
Front SS Lip Kit in mail, fog lights and bezel next
Due for an update. SS front lip was "destroyed" by Australia Post in the mail!
Bought some second hand seats from REDVS from here. Installed one and am hating life at the moment trying to undo the bolts at the rear of the seats. A sedan wouldn't be too bad but you have got to be a contortionist to reach behind and under the seat in a Ute. The new seats are so much cleaner and have decent foam backing still. Now the carpet has gotta get replaced to match the seats! Pics will be up when the interior is half decent.
Tonneou support bars can be bought from Holden direct for a whopping $6.80 - stuff paying $50+ on ebay for an aftermarket item.
Shedding some weight so BT1 Sump and Tranny bash plates are up for sale. PM if interested. Also have VR/S Ute sideskirts for cheap.
Picking up some tinted windows and new doors with full electrics. Will have to paint the doors or transfer the goodies across, won't be an overnight job!
Have now completely stripped interior to redo. Replacing the carpet with 3mm vinyl similar to that of an AU Ford Ute.
Stripped dash and found around 20 metres of hands free car kits, aerials and speaker wire!
Does anyone know if Series II VR Ute's have got the loom in place for electric windows or do I need to swap BCM or something exciting?
Due for a bit of an update. Ute hasnt moved in months and is now an unregistered project.
Have put in brand new black floor carpet and sourcing clean centre console from a VR or VS. Carpet looks great but the dash looks cack next to the brand new carpet.
Sourced VS SS Ute sideskirts, will paint and install after sourcing a genuine SS front lip.
Replaced rear tonneou with one that is designed for maloo sailplane (the holes for the sailplane line up with the roll bar/ladder rack).
Replaced the three tub rails with ones that actually have hooks in place for the tonneou, a lot more convenient.
A written off VS Ute should arrive in around a week so spare parts will be plentiful
