lol yeah i did forget about that! Did that a while ago though, but definately worth it as i use it all the time. I should do a how-to for it aye... there's just one issue with it that i'd like to work out. I used the drivers side rear door for the boot release trigger, and if all the doors are locked and you physically unlock that door, the boot opens too lol! i've been thinking about it for ages but havent found out a way that it would work. When i do i can finally put that door trim back on, Haydz is always giving me shit for it lol!
lol thanks dude, yeah i'll prob take it easy until i'm more accustomed to the new found power, its gonna have a fair whack of torque with 10psi from the get go and with the aid of the stroker, either way its gonna be lots of fun.
lol haydz it's not crunchy now, as long as you shift perfectlybut by all means man i'll let ya take it for a spin
i got a couple of dodgy pics before and after the removal of the insulators, maybe i'll put them up later.
umm i'll be dropping the fuel tank in when the engine and box go in, as i dont think it'll run properly on the standard tune with the walbro pump.
and the ss kit was under wraps for a while lol, when i've got some $$$ to throw at paint it'll get done. What S badges do you think i should get lol? The vs ones arent anything special, but i was maybe thinking of the vx or vy type. I however also like the debadged look, except for the lions. Opinions? I'm also leaving the ecotec badges on for fun lol, and because when it's been resprayed some lazy bugger left the badges on.
Anyway, my aim for the car has been to make it the ultimate S pack, taking the best from S packs of the past and present, boosted and manual, with a few ss bits thrown in for good measure (ssv rims, ss foggies). So far i think i'm doing alright lol.
Oh yeah and i did forget, got a nolathane strut brace just before track day, really tightened up the front end and handles really well! It's also made the 19z handle more like they were 18z which is good.
ohh competition
last i heard amanda wanted to reco the 5 spd. and put it in her vs
dan one of theese would look sick...

its going to be an s pack wanna be..
s pack lip, s pack skirts, ss foggies
and a almighty v6 to back it up
lol rich yours needs exec, berlina, calais, s & ss!! Talk about hybrid!
yeah i dunno about any S badges, probably just leave it as is with the lions. Looks clean enough without being totally debadged.
Also rich, if amanda passes on the 5 speed are you interested? lol either that or i've got a VT super6 auto incase you need it.
I'm gonna have to have a huge sale of all the excess shit i've accumulated while buying the L67 and transplanting it...
sscalberex, thats the badge rich would need.
Get the box rich! Ill help you with it, take it to the place i got mine done. Was $900 for the rebuild, that was a T5 but should be pretty much the same.

mmm thats only if she wants it, probably depends on how much of it i do for her lol... either way she needs something soon, her torque converter occasionally slips around 80k and vibrates like a biatch at anything faster...
anyways i should just be concentrating on making sure my motor gets done, but i thought i'd do a few little things while i'm waiting for it.
Did the boost gauge install:
I probably worked on this for about 4 or 5 hours after work every day (and the saturday) last week to get it how i wanted it! I didnt like the look of the gauge cup on the a pillar, didnt want to delete an air vent, and didnt want to put a couple of gauges under the radio as i use that space for my phone/2 way/wallet and my custom ipod dock is there anyway. The perfect spot was staring me in the face. Hayden said "put it here!", pointing to the empty spot above the top air vent in the driver's door. I replied with something to the tune of " oh i dunno, that'd be a whole lot of screwing around..." Hayden replied with, "you might as well, seeing as you're going to all the effort with the motor and box and shit", and i kind of agreed. We worked out the plumbing and electrical side of things, and i was then left to make this gauge fit in the door. It was a whole lot of screwing around, but the finished product looks awesome!
I started by cutting 2 slots for the gauge pod bracket and planned to bolt it in from underneath. I spent most of the time slowly carving away at the plastic to make sure i didnt take too much off at a time, and to get the right angle for the gauge. I snuck up on it little by little til i pretty much ran out of plastic, however the angle and tilt worked out really well! The tilt allows me to also hide any wiring or hose that go to the gauge. It's a 7 colour LED gauge with a smoke face. I wanted the 7 colour one because one had to be greento go with everything else. It's got some nice colour transition effects, i'll put up a video of it in action. Only problem with it is the smoke face, can hardly see it in the daytime with sunnies on, but at night it's perfect. I intend to somehow get the smoke face off the gauge and make it "smoke free" lol. Enough crapping on, i'll let some pics tell the story (take note though some are progress pics, they look a little rough but they didnt stay that way):
Pretty much what the shape needed to look like to recess the gauge
This is the drivers side window demister air tunnel. It also had to be modified to recess the gauge. Hopefully it'll make the demister work a little better because stock they're not much good
1 of the 400 test fits i did, nearly done here
All bolted in! The tab hanging out the back of the pod is half of the gauge mounting bracket (i cut it in half lol). It's bent up to hold the rear of the gauge down.
Front on: the rough looking bits where the gauge bracket goes through the plastic have been smoothed and touched up with some black and grey paint i mixed after these photos
Side on
Yay it works
Also repainted my rear brakes the proper black/red scheme the other week. I dont know why i originally painted them all red when i did black/red for the fronts! But anyway they're fixed now, looks much better.
And on the topic of brakes, after i'd painted the fronts i thought they looked a little plain, in need of something. I knew what they needed, and scoured ebay for months to find what i was after. It was only last week i found them:
PBR decals! Best kind of vinyl to use too apparently (i bet they'll still burn off at the next track day though), and only $10 for 4 of them, and free postage! The brakes certainly look finished now.
And just tonight, i finally pissed off the park bench rear seat, for a stato one! I didnt think i'd be changing these over at this stage of the project, but when a good deal comes up you've gotta grab it! Especially as time goes on, things like seats and interiors are gonna become hard to come by, especially in good nick and at a decent price! I got the fronts and the rears for a whole seventy-two dollars! The rears are in great cond too, but i intend to give them a full leather retrim at some stage with perhaps a grey/black two tone with some perforated leather parts.
Before:
After:
Oh and Haydz there's no drink compartment in the middle armrest
Also a pic to show how the rear sits a little lower without the top spring insulator. Much happier with the way she sits now!
And just another random pic after a wash the other day
enjoy

Nice work mate, it all looks great. Those SSV wheels look awesome on it.
Thanks NickVR, externally it's still in need of some attention, i want mine to be the same quality as yours man.
aww rich dont be panicking, youve got a good number of things i want, for starters immac paint! Everything on your ride is immac now! And i'm sure you'd fit in the buckets just fine, so of course you'd be welcome to come take a rideAnd who knows, you may just end up with my gearbox!
I'm intending to throw the fuel tank in this weekend, pending the answer as to whether or not i'll bugger anything up engine wise by having the walbro pump in there instead of the stock one. Anyone know for sure?
nice and neat if you blow it (lol), it will be awsome![]()
thanks mate, yes it's going to be stroked and blown very soon hopefully, after some time i'll be swapping the s/c for a turbo and aiming for 10's
My engine builder will hopefully be letting me know by the end of this week that the motor's finally done. It's been held up a couple of times for a few different reasons, its not all bad though as it means it wont have been a second rate rush job, and i've not had the $$$$ to pay the rest of it off as the last couple of months havent been as friendly on the wallet as i'd predicted. However as soon as it's done i'll be finding the dosh to pay the rest of it off and will be doing my best to get it in the vs asap!
With help from both Jack and Hayden over 2 weekends, we finally got my 80L tank in the car! I wasnt told that i was only supposed to use 1 of the 2 filter adaptors that came with my walbro (i used both and it wouldnt fit into the swirl pot properly lol), but it's in now. We also had to adapt one of the fuel tank straps to fit the live axle floorpan (the tank i got was from an L67 SIII stato or caprice, ie IRS), which involved cutting the end off one of the old straps and bolting it to the passenger side strap. Fitted perfectly first go!
The walbro sounds like a vacuum cleaner lol. Not as loud as i thought it'd be which is good. I'll take some photos and put them up later.
Cheers
hey mate im new to this site just joined, love ur car i got a white vs just gotta get some nice photos up, manual as well not sure if original i got told it is but dnt know how to check..... looks mad with the wheels i wanna get the ve gts wheels they look good on the vs as well....
hey mate appreciate the comments, fairly lucky to cross paths with ya today at the dyno day, good to meet you and welcome to jc!
VE GTS's would look mint, but imo 19z are big enough for a vs. The 20z you had on suited well though!
Prob the easiest way to check if its a factory manual is have a look under the hood, on the passenger side firewall there should be 2 metal plates riveted on. The one on the left will tell you if its factory manual or not. For gearbox it could say M30 for the 4 speed auto, mine's factory manual and being a series 2 got a different gearbox (getrag, M35 on the plate) to the series 1 which got a T5 (unsure of plate code). It should say LG2 for ecotec engine (VS), under axle it'll say either GU4 for single spinner diff or G80 for LSD, susp will prob say STD meaning standard suspension, but it could say FE2 for sports or V5W for country pack). Hope that helps you find out a bit about your car!
Anyway speaking of dyno day, i did end up going, i estimated around 125rwkw, and it reeled off 128rwkw! Pretty much what i was expecting from what is a 100% stock motor. Not for long though, but still wanted to see what it could make and to know what i'd be stepping up from! I'll post up the dyno sheet when i get around to scanning it or something. Essentially its a pretty flat power curve, which i am happy about!
Anyway should be looking forward to a few mods here and there soon, as me and Haydz purchased a smashed vs stato to pinch some parts from. Got my eyes on the power windows, chrome door handles, maybe the door trims, maybe the rear seat, and if i feel like getting hectic, the climate control lol! Also already pinched the boot carpet which was damn new looking, and put it in. Looks rad:
Working backwards some more, paid another visit to Phreddy during the week in an attempt to get my trip computer reading properly again. Its been dropping segments from the LCD's for a number of months now and couldnt work out exactly why. So thanks to a properly working donor trip computer from Haydz, Phreddy swapped the LCD's from it over to my existing trip comp and now it works perfectly!
While the cluster was in bits I'd also drawn his attention to the LED's he used to replace the globes behind the LCD's... they varied in brightness noticeably between windows and i'm not 100% happy with them. It's been worked out that the variance has to exist in the LED's themselves, so after he returns from his next road trip he'll be taking a trip to jaycar to get some more LED's that better not be screwy! He said that if i'm not happy with them then he's not either! Talk about great customer service! Thanks again mate!I shall get a pic up of the awesome green-ness he's able to achieve with a few "true green" (a bit pricey too may i add) LED's when it's all finally working properly.
And back to last weekend's cruise, thought i'd chuck this pic up too. Loving the ride height finally, after removing the top spring insulators in the rear, now they actually look like ultra lows!
And just to prove it. It's now pretty much on the bump stops lol
Enjoy
thanks rich, i'm pleased with the result! Mate the only differences between yours and mine would be extractors, zorst and gbox. So i doubt you'd have any problems getting over 100rwkw! But yeah 200rwkw is somewhere along the line, on the way to my target 350rwkw when its turbo'd!
One step at a time though, gotta get this damn engine out of the shop! Still havent heard back about it, and still dont have the $$$$ for it! I'm sure i'll be able to wave my magic wand and rustle some money up. I've been so lazy with my tax, still havent done it for the last quarter of '08! That owes me some money, hopefully i'll find time to do it this looong weekend.
Happy easter everyone![]()
yeah mate, BAS is funhaha. Might do it today. Anyone would think i'd be motivated to do it if the ato owes me money for it. But being a subcontractor also means i should get another fat tax return this year though, which i will probably spend most on a turbo kit. Thats not going to be until august-ish though!
Hey guys, put the videos up of the dyno runs on youtube:
YouTube - Dyno run 128rwkw part 1
is the set up and first 2 power runs
YouTube - Dyno run 128rwkw part 2
and this is the last power run which made 128.3rwkw
Special thanks goes to Haydz for doing the filmingthanks mate you're a champ!!
Also they're available in High Quality so dont forget to click the HQ button!
I'll also get around to putting up the dyno sheet. Here's a pic also taken by Haydz.
Enjoy
Ps now we are again able to edit our #1 posts, it's been updated so go take a look!
