    Default R3CON'S VS Calais

Hey all, finally got around to givin her a good clean and thougght I would post a couple pics here.

    SPECS:

    1996 VS
    Calais
    V8 5.0L
    Auto

    MODS:
Lowered 50mm on Kings super...or Ultra (I cant remember) low springs
CV8R rims with the hrt logo (Mag & Turbo NZ got in a few examples)
Thats pretty much it...unless you wanna count a tow bar lol

    Plans:
Tints all round (as dark as humanly possible 35% is legal, but I'm trying to convince the tint guys to locate some 30%.

Headers and exhaust, removing the CAT (might go a 2.5" twiny if I can squeeze it in.)

Cold air intake and POD filter

    Future....way in the future:
    VX bodykit (no spoiler)
Black or dark chrome Altezza style tail lights
    Altezza headlights
    Performance chip of some sort
    Possible a lumpier CAM
Sort out the aircon......thats not cold

    hey mate nice calais there.
the only kit i'd put on mate is an SS lip kit, only as, like sed b4, it can ruin it.
a couple more ideas for ya
    *clear side repeaters
*clear lense tail lights - i think would suit the colour better than altezza
    *chrome mirrors and handles

sweet as ride there bro, rims look nuts... welcome to the calais crew

mite suit ur car better with the orange paint and (assuming) orange rear indicators. for other colour cars and/or cars with clear indicator lenses they just seem to clean teh look up a little bit more. my opinion only tho.
    any changes so far mate??

Good thing you chose to drop the kit idea to me it would have spoilt the classyness and just general coolness of the Calais. In the poll I voted for more performance gear. Probably keep the cat in and get some decent systems sorted for it (exhaust and sound).

    I agree with Wagon_Wheel. \/

Looks awesome mate, but whatever you do, DO NOT PUT A BODY KIT ON IT! Or those homosexual tail lights, they will completly ruin your car. It looks perfect as is. Save your cash and put it towards making the car go faster

Yeah I was thinkin the same thing, i'd give my left testi for a sweet calais like this.

I think the altezza tails and kit would bring it down.

    Sweet ride mate, looks mint

    Good luck with it.

Yeah, The kit is out. Also the lights at this stage. I will look at them again when they bring out led tails etc.

Just gonna do intake, exhaust and tints at this stage.

So I finally got around to putting a head unit in the lais. Nothin too flash just better than the factory jobbie. Christ I never knew you had to pull so much crap off, just to get in there. There isnt alot of room in the bay behind the headunit either. I was gonna run preouts for amp and sub I have, but didnt get around to buyin them, when i installed the headunit i dont think it would have fit very well anyways.

Anyone know the specs of the factory speakers? size etc? front and back.

6" front 6" back, but you can fit 6.5" in the back without any dramas.

If the Series 2 Calais is pretty much the same as my series 1 then they would be 6 inch in the doors and parcel shelf. People have been able to fit some 6 1/2" Alpines and the like in those holes but Im not sure what went into that.

Cool thanks guys, I dont think i'll try my luck trying to shoehorn 6.5" in the rear. lol I swear when I typed it, it didnt sound dirty.

I actually dont mind the factory speakers, but Im getting crackling of buzzing from one of the rear ones, although that could lust be the speaker cover on it, i havnt had a good look yet.

Figured out what the crackling was from the rear speakers. It was the bloody cover!!. Ripped it off and we are all gravy now baby!!

I should have run amp leads to, I have a sub, but god knows how you can fit AMP lead behind the headunit with the amount of room behind it!!
