Looks like it might be time to pull out photoshop then!
I do have a heap of left over paint...

EDIT: Never mind the photoshop, I just realised yours is painted. Looks like that's next on the to-do list then!

I love how my car picks the best times to break down!
I was in my old home town for a funeral on Friday when I heard a knock from the front passenger side over bumps
I checked over the whole front end, looking for worn bushes, and grabbing hold of and shaking every bar I could find, checked the wheelnuts, calipers, discs, everything that could possibly move, but found nothing. I figured it could wait until I got back to my place so I could get it up on stands and have a proper look.

Driving back to Melbourne at like 11pm that night, hit a big bump, heard a loud clang, then a whirring like a flat tyre. I went to pull off the highway (I was at Dadswells Bridge for anyone who knows how middle-of-nowhere that is), and as I braked to get off the road, something seized and locked up that front wheel, which gave me a very exciting jerky stopping experience.

RACV guy came eventually, and we went over the whole car trying to figure it out. Each wheel would spin freely, but as soon as the car was on the ground it would seize up again...so, long story short, we eventually figured out that I had lost a bolt out of the front passenger brake caliper.

So I had a very uncomfortable nights sleep in a cheap hotel, so Mum could drive up and bring me a new bolt from the wreckers the next morning. $2.50 and 5 mins later, I could finally get going again.

Now, after catching up on sleep I finally have to get under the car and make sure nothing got damaged in the process...

But on a positive note, I have a fancy new headunit waiting to go in, and sometime in the next couple days 2x12" subs and amps to suit will be arriving. Will finally be some big changes going on. I just need to find some free time to make them happen

Well, here's the damage. I think I came out of it pretty well. There is a bit of scoring along the top of the rotor which shouldn't effect anything (ignore the rusted looking hub, I'll paint it black eventually), and a couple chunks out of the caliper where it slid down and grabbed the top of the rotor. I've cleaned up all the metal flakes, and don't see this causing any problems as all the contact areas managed to come away unscathed

Wow, that really got to suck man . Atleast there was a motel around to stay in. Very unlucky about that bolt. Ahwell you have the new sound system to look forward too.
Are you going to be making a custom enclosure?

The subs are coming in a ported box, so depending on how well they fit I might just keep that one and modify it a little (you will see what I mean when I get it), or build a whole new one if it is far too big for the diff-hump.

It all seized up like 50m from a motel, and we managed to pinch a seatbelt bolt to at least sit in the hole and hold the caliper off the disc so i could at least pull into the carpark, then very rudely woke up the hotel lady who gave me a room for the night.

Fantastic timing. Looking forward to that sound system. Did you end up getting the deck we were looking at the other day, 10 mins up the road? Yell out if you want a hand with it, or a drink after it. I suddenly have a lot of free time...

Yeah, that whiz-bang JVC one. I'll be away all week from tomorrow but hopefully I'll have some time next weekend if you wanted to come around and we can throw in that and the new subs. I have a feeling I will need to run 0g wire to the boot and split it into a few 4g runs for the amps up there, so there might be a decent days work to do when I get the time.

I'm keeping the finer details a little quiet for the time being, but considering the budget I've built this thing on its quite some serious gear going in

Oh Schweet - can't wait to play with it. Will be interesting to throw the deck in before the new subs, and see if it sounds any better than the last one.. What'd you end up paying?

Sounds like a plan.. Just let me know when you're free. I should probably go to a FG meet sooner or later, haven't been in over a month..

Well the old sub has been sold off to an old mate of mine long ago, just waiting until I see the bloke so I can give it to him - which will be this week, so it will be gone before the new headunit goes in.

But still, I don't see why I can't go a day or 2 with the new headunit and no subs to see the difference.

I think I ended up paying about $300 for it, which was more than I planned, but its still VERY cheap at that price.

Probably won't be at FG next week either since I will be getting into Melbourne that night and will probably be too buggered to think about heading out that way, but I'll see what happens on the night

On a related note, I'll have a Pioneer DEH3950 for sale in a week or so as well if anyone wants to make an offer and get dibs before I advertise it.

Ahh fair enough. Well when the new deck is in, You could just go for a short cruise and you'd soon notice... Just make sure your knee is in the right spot That'd be enough time to get sick of the complete and utter lack of low end. I think we should hook your originals up to your monoblock and try to blow them with that.. Given that your house amp failed.

BTW, I can vouch for the deck he's selling - It's in perfect working condition.

It's not that my PA amp failed at blowing my stock speakers, its more the fact that even in my VERY drunken state my ears didn't handle the volumes for long enough and believe it or not I actually considered the neighbours a little.

But with at least 50% left on that amp (probably more like 75%), next time we will kill them dead. I just need some decent length speaker wire so they aren't up next to my head when we do it

Oh, and the type x's put out plenty of bass to keep me happy between subs so its no real issue there

And yeah, the neighbors probably didn't like that... I probably have some speaker wire lying around. Failing that.. I have a roll with around 40m of electrical wire? It's not like we're aiming for quality here
Hm, Idea, Put the speaker box in a pile of hard rubbish... Hide wire tracing back to house. When someone walks past...Heh.

I just bought a 30m? roll of decent speaker wire anyway with no real purpose apart from "its good to have some spare" so I'm fairly set there

Hard rubbish has been taken in my street...but not before I taxed some 3-way speaker boxes loaded with peerless 8" drivers, peerless soft dome tweeters, some 4"ish midbass drivers and (most importantly) a 3-way crossover network that is now sitting on my shelf

Oh, its probably worth mentioning that I spoke to my uncle from Cairns on Friday, and he has a wrecked VS GTS sitting up there that he was using as parts for an unfinished project. If I can get up there I would have a 255rwkw 5L, gearbox, wiring loom, etc waiting for me on the VERY cheap. I mean, this man just GAVE away his VT clubby standard brakes after upgrading them

Hmm...take a week off uni (again), and cop fines for driving a pissed off V8 for the next 2 years?? Its a very tempting prospect.

Hmm, well part of the deal was that I stay there and use his shed/hoist etc to do all the work. His missus didn't think it was anywhere near as good an idea as we did.

It won't be happening anyway. 2011 is when I get off my P's finally, so thats a long time to be driving around illegally.

Besides, I'd rather save my pennies and put them toward the falcon 500 AMS I've had my eye on since I was a kid

This is true... Would be a bad time to point out that you COULD have legally been driving a real car by now...?
Didn't know you were gonna have to pay for that old falcon? And if he's got the GTS sitting up there, WITH the engine, tranny, loom, etc... What part of it did he need/use for his project?

Ahh shut up. We all make mistakes, mine just stings for a bit longer than it should.
Yeah, that falcon is worth too much just to be given to me. If I ever have a spare $3-5000 I will make him an offer but until then I can only dream.

He was putting all the driveline into a HR? ute with skyline suspension, but after about 5 years he has decided it will take him forever, so is getting rid of it all.

Oh you have no idea how much I want to. If he still has it all in Jan/Feb when I've finished my seasonal work and am feeling cashed up I might make an offer, but it would have to be VERY cheap to make it worth my time, then the 2 year wait
