It was time to fire it up for the first time today, but we had a couple of problems. Because it's running LS1 injectors, and because it hasn't been tuned yet, as we tried to start it they pumped way too much fuel in and flooded the engine, so that delayed startup for a bit as we put the old injectors back in just to check that it was running ok and the timing was correct etc etc. Will have to put the LS1 injectors back on when it gets tuned properly.
I was hoping it would be ready by friday but turns out it won't be done until wednesday next week, which is a bummer but it's ok because when we did start it I didn't care how long it took to finish, I was in awe!! We took a video of it running which I will post up shortly, in the meantime here is a couple more pictures in higher quality than the last.
Old engine coming out

****in mint man.nice write up about it too.bet ya cant wait to drive it
Cheers mate. Yea that's all I want to do, but I can't drive it until mid next week!
Compliments to you on your stato too, that paintjob is absolutely perfect, well done![]()
thanx champ.i was the same, kept having delays and shit when it was getting charged and it pissed me off big time but the end result is worth the wait man.what sorta power will it make roughly?
Yea well I know it will be worth it when it's done, but the waiting game is horrible! I'm hoping to be putting out 400Hp at the fly, so around 330rhwp. I have more planned for the future though, a twin throttle manifold is on the cards, as well as a few other goodies. I'll get used to the power first, then start upgrading it again once the excitement starts wearing off.
that sounds amazing even in a video. your gilmer drive sounds heaps louder now!
Yea I know, I think woody tightened it right up, you can hear it over everything else.
Thats so nice man good job!!!
Sounds awsome too...
Cheers mate, only 1 day left until I get it back!
Hanging out to drive it i bet???
Yea bloody oath, I'll probably take a sickkie tomorrow and go and get it first thing in the morning haha! Will probably just drive it around all day![]()
Another update. Went to pick it up and make the final payment today, and it turns out that the final cost is $1500 more than we expected, due to a price rise in parts from the eastern states, and a few things that were found faulty when we pulled everthing apart. So unfortunately I can't pick it up yet, hopefully will be able to next week or the one after. On the positive side, I did get to go for a quick drive in it today, it was sick! The whole car was shaking from side to side at idle, and the torque is off the hook, it hasn't even been fully tuned yet. We will put it on the dyno after its been properly run in and will fully tune it then. At the moment it is only running on a half tune, and starts to ping after 4000rpm, so I will have to be nice to it until it's run in.
Long story short, I picked the car up today. The tune is even softer than I originally thought, can't take it anywhere past 3000rpm, and if I use more than half throttle below 3000rpm then it starts to ping as well. On the positive side, the torque improvement is huge, even at low revs it is much more responsive than the 304. I can't wait to get it properly tuned and to give it a good thrashing! I might upload a video in the next couple of days, stay tuned.
Got a few pictures of it today, when I picked it up yesterday I found a big HiFlow sticker on it, which was a bit cheeky of him I thought, but it's growing on me, I'm starting to like it.
The new donk
Cleaned the engine bay

Yea they did a bit of cleaning and stuff to the bay, neatened all the wiring and managed to do away with some of the hoses and stuff, I'm pretty happy with the way it turned out, looks a lot better than before.
