Finally sold the Honda civic and began the hunt for a new ride. I used to own a VP SS many years ago and really missed the grunt and fun driving it, so I wanted to get myself a 5L. Was looking at either a VT SS, VT CALAIS/BERLINA (5.0) but if the right one came along, didn't bother me which year model it was.
After weeks of failed searches, I came across this beauty which was for sale, parked outside a workshop swealtering in the extreme Melbourne sun.
Took her for a drive and knew she was the one, managed to take her home for bargain! just under 6k
Has 188,000 kms and some minor mods, extractors and exhaust. She needs some work on the interior such as a steam clean and the roof lining needs re-doing (found an exellent guide on this forum).
Only concern is that she was overheating (3/4 on the guage) the other day, then again it was a 44'c stinker. But the thermo fans weren't kicking in (are they meant to on the v8 ? or does it solely rely on the clutch fan?) Noticed the temp come down once I turned the on the A/C.
Here are some pics...

nice pick up m8, good to be back in a big bent 8?
Looks very good mateyou got any plans?
Nothing performance wise LightningVP, im happy with the way it goes and sounds. Just cosmetics and a few things need to be done such as the engine belts and the overheating issue....wouldn't mind upgrading the brakes though!
In Vic buddy![]()
sounds cool...
just a question re the tranny if anyone can help...
When it kicks back into 2nd it feels as though the tranny slips, it revs for around half a second and then smoothly shifts into gear. This only when it kicks back from higher speeds and if i accelerate hard, but its a smooth kickdown to 3rd when i slightly accelerate.
I was told the tranny has been adjusted to do this because it had harder and firmer gear changes where it would chirp, think he also mentioned it was modded, stage 2 perhaps ?? how can i tell ?? or does it sound like the tranny is cactus ??
And just another thing, when sitting on 100km/h, the revs sit at around 2100rpm, sure it should be less than that but then again i don't think the speedo displays the correct speed. At 100km/h car seems to be going slightly faster. Tested this with speed alert computer and that was displaying 104km/h when taco was showing 100km/h.
Suggestions ???

Not sure about your tranny problem, but with the speedo, get a GPS (only need to borrow from a friend or relative if you don't own one yourself), I believe all of them display the speed, which is very accurate, and what I used to see what mine was like, because the "Speedo checker" on the freeways are a load of ****...
Firstly welcome to the forum. you'll find everything you need here. Nice pickup - she's a real shiner!
I can't help with any of your issues other than tell you to check fluids, i believe the trans needs to be done while it is running for a true result.
The speedo inaccuracy isn't too bad if what you are finding is true. This would be pretty normal I'd say. borrow a GPS and take it for a spin and see what comes up. Be gentle while doing so, some GPS units aren't particulary quick and might take a second or two to catch up if you gun it. At least you'll know which side of 100 to stick to afterwards.
Nice ride! paintwork is awsome,,shinny!
Under $6k and the quality of the car is mint
