    Default High pitched noise

    Hey again ......

i'm here with yet another high pitched noise lol..

    My Car:
    VX Berlina S2 Auto 3.8

at around about 80kp/h when the car drops to 4th gear, there is a high pitched squeal at about 1500 revs, so pretty much keeping the same speed, maybe under more accelaration (exhaust takes over then haha), but when i take my foot off the gas the squealing stops..

i can sometimes here it when accelerating through all the gears, but once the revs get too high, drones out the squealing..

so yeh anyone know what this is?

    Thanks

also forgot to say, the brake pads have been replaced recently (to help remove the squeaking brakes, helped so much *rolls eyes*).. so it can't be the squealer things lol..

had a look at your idler pulleys? there should be two on your engine.
    could be a bearing noise....?

or a fan belt? airconditioner one?
can you record the noise? and put it as a link on you tube LOL ahaahhah

and how much would it cost to replace one of them? any mechanics want to chuck in known prices?

mmm... i didn't check if it was going on when my a/c was on or not.. i'll do that when i go out 2morrow..
i'll try n record it, but its a bit too quiet, so i'm not sure if my phone could pick it up..

and how much would it cost to replace either the fan belt or airconditioner belt too? just looking to see how much i need to save to repair ..

Belt $30.00 for decent quality one (GATES) Easy to replace.

Pulleys $25 - $30 make sure you get metal ones. Easy to replace. Replace all three of them, one that sits next to A/C compressor, One on the pre-tensioner, and the ribbed one on top right of motor.

Tip for if your changing or taking off your belt.
Check if theres a diagram of how the belt is to go back on and if not make a sketch so when you go to put it back in you wont be there for half hour guessing through each possible way

ahm if its a squeaky belt and it keeps going after you replace the belt and the pulleys, i would check the harmonic balancer as it is one of the signs of a blown harmonic balancer, or a harmonic balancer on the way out.

got the issue fixed today, it was the front left wheel bearing.. the noise got unbearable after getting rear-ended 2 wks ago, so i went to a different mechanic took him a while to diagnose it, but he got there lol..

i didnt even think to ask if it sounded like worn down brake pads.... sounds very similar to a wheel bearing.

if yours is charged (i only assume from your name...) it's not the charger belt or the charger bearing?

bearings? could be the pulley's themselves as in the wheel.. not the belt.
    check aircon belt and fan.
also does it happen when idling or neutral/park revving?

    cheers,
