Identifying vt motor va prefix eng no

Hi all , I am wondering if any one can shed some light on how to identify what model had what prefix to the engine number.
I have just bought a motor that I am told is a VT Ecotec and I will be fitting to my VS series II, the VS eng no. is prefixed with VH and the motor I just bought is prefixed with VA. On the back of the block is cast 3800 series II.
Short of buying a VT manual can anybody tell me what function the pipe from the LHS exhaust manifold does and is there an equivalent function on the VS.

Cant help with the pipe info - but the prefixes are correct VH = VS/VT car and VA = VX and started around VA 056800 in Sep 2000
