    Default 2000 caprice diff

I need to have my diff rebuilt. What is a good gear ratio to rebuild it with? I want something good off the mark.

    Cheers

go 3.9's. will get it off the line really well. apparently u can get 4.11's now without having to modify ur diff, so thats somthing to think about.

with a big stall, some 3.9's and exhaust+tune 12's are a walk in the park, so they can go pretty well with the right mods. thats a lot quicker then most lighter 5 liters

ya not wrong... im not far of a 12 without a stallie/shift kit or lower gears... im rebuilding my diff with 3.9's, got a 3200 stall on the way and a stage 2 shift kit...
Going where no late model stato/caprice has gone before.... GAME ON!!

I spoke to my mechanic today and he said he doesn’t think he can get a 3.9 but can get a 3.7. How much should it cost? I have been told about $650 + tax for the gears. And about $1200 to rebuild it and fit it. Is there much difference between the 3.9 and 3.7?

    Cheers

yeah about 0.2 of a difference... sorry man couldnt help it.. i doubt you would notice a difference between the two... have a look on ebay sometimes you will find new gears fairly cheap

thats so much money for the gains u get. why not just find a second hand diff? for that money you could get a high stall in and the car will go weight better. i got my 3.7's for $350 from ls1 forum and got them installed for $250. really gotta shop around.

go a 3.7 max, 3.9 or 4.11 will murder your fuel economy (+ your in a stato), and you'll still have reasonable top end.

Cheers for your help guys. Alight I will try and find a second hand 3.7, sounds like it’s the way to go.
