Default VT door shakes / rattles over bumps

Hi all, I own a VT SS that has the factory HD tow pack (which apparantely means stiffer springs). Each time I go over a bump the DSF door moves up and down as if loose at the catch. A guy at work mentioned that there is a plastic sleeve on the latch that wears or breaks off allowing the up down movement. Anyone know if this is the case? If so is it a readily available part from GMH? Cheers JR

The plastic sleeve on the door striker can wear or break away. You can't just replace the plastic part so you will need a new striker and it should be available at Holden.

Dropped in to a local dealer today, says he's never heard of this being a common problem. If it's the door latches, they are $180 each as its a complete unit.

I looked at the striker plate on the door jamb and compared it to a new one. New ones have a black plastic shield over the U section that the latch clips over. My ones are missing the plastic. Perhaps this allowing a small amount of movement.

I have ordered 4 new plates @$8 ea and thought I'll drive in a new pair of hinge pins on the DSF door ($4 ea) and see if this works. If it does, its a fix for under $50, if it doesn't, then its not a huge loss

Try undoing the striker plate a fraction and then tap in in a couple of mil to take out some of the slop

That plastic on the striker doesn't look like much but if it's missing it sure will rattle.

Can you glue some pvc hose around them to compensate for the missing plastic?

Yeah thats true, VT's came with clear plastic lol.

Anyways I managed to fix the problem with my door by taking it in a few mill.

Also the passenger seat doesnt rattle since I changed my shocks to the lowered GT Sport... Come to think of it, nothing rattles now.

all my doors rattle. holden manual also mentioned a thin strip (Flock tape) that runs along the top of the door seal. stops rubber sqeaking. i also have the plastic missing from the strikers tho.

Fitted the new plastic coated striker plates today, noticible improvement. the 2 PS and DSR dont rattle at all the DSF needs a slight tweak *I still have to do the hinge pins yet, and adjust it about 1mm up, but it only moves very slightly now, so my advice, invest $32 on a set of new strikers, money well spent.

Now to get that awful factory stereo sounding better......................

Where they easy to replace?.. is it a matter of just marking the position of the existing plates, removing the old ones and installing the new ones?

Do i need to do anything else other than that?

Must be very common for the VT's to do this. Miine has done it from about 40,000k's. Mine still had the plastic over the strikers untill recently though. Could see from outsde the car that the doors just didn't seem to sit perfectly flush with the rest of the car though. I'm guessign it could be the pins? or maybe just need to adjust the striker?
