Hey all, just about to try and change my heater core and heard you need to degas the A/C before you start. Can anyone tell me how to degas this as i want to start ripping my VX apart in the morning haha especially ringing around to find that the Auto Air shops wanted to charge me $1,500 for the job!!
Thanks guy!
to do it LEGALLY you need to have the gas recovered by a licenced specialist..
it is possible by holding one of the valves in the lines open is highly illegal with massive fines tho
not Only massively illegal, it can be extremely dangerous to yourself, i have seen many people that are trying to degas thier A/C and they have ended up with freeze burns to thier face, arms and body even with clothes on.
the last time i checked it was a very large fine Dished out by the EPA...... i think its somewhere around the $1000 Mark.
there is no physical way to change your heater core without a necessary recharge of your system

all you need is a valve removal tool and a pair of leather glove slwly remove the valve with a rag over it the gas is ozone friendly so all good
Mmmm...Aircon gas in the eyeball...superfreeze your eyeball, rub your eyeball, shatter your eyeball.
Sounds like fun
When you ask the ac guys for a price tell them you just want the gas recovered not the system fixed.
Then when you get it apart go get the couple of orings you need and put it back together then you will just need it vaced and gased.
yeah i knob like you would lean over and look directly at the port

Are you a fully qualified and licensed refrigeration Technician???
R134A does not hurt the ozone, BUT it does have a high GWP, (Global Warming Potential, for Dannnyn12)
Just some Information On R134A Refrigerant: (the fancy names for it is 1,1,1,2-Tetrafluoroethane, other names for it are HFC 134a, fluorocarbon 134a, unsymmetric tetrafluoroethane, norflurane, histofreeze 2000 )
R134A gas has a boiling point of −26.3 °C for more information about R134A Refrigerants click here
Stability
Stable.* May cause damage to the atmosphere*. Incompatible with active metals, strong oxidizing agents.
Toxicology
May be harmful by inhalation. Chronic exposure may cause reproductive damage. High levels may cause CNS(central nervous system or Brain) damage. Contact with liquid may cause skin burns. Asphyxiant at high concentration.
R134A Is a Carbon Flourinated Refrigerant. Is Chemical Composition is C2H2F4 R-134a
C2(2 Carbon Units) H2(2 hydrogen units) F4 (4 Fluorine Units) therefore dangerous to release into the air.

thats all good and well, but there are alot of mechanics out there that dont really give a shit and to save a few dollars that dont recover the system corectly and vent it straight out
