I have just noticed over the past week that my transmission has started rattling. Atleast i am pretty sure it is my transmission anyway...
When i put the car into DRIVE and put my foot on the brake and press the acelerator slightly (to about 1000rpm) there is a rather loud rattling noise coming from under the car at the front. When in REVERSE or PARK or NEUTRAL there is no rattling, only when in DRIVE.
So.. what would cause rattling in my transmission? can i just get a tranny service and will this get rid of the rattle.
Any help will be appreciated.
Do you ever hear it when driving regularly?
Or only when applying brake?
hear it every single time i accelerate from a low rpm. Never hear it when slowing down or braking
What if you had it in nuetral and revved it?
Just to try and figure if its from egine or drivetrain
as said above, only rattles when in DRIVE.
Could be some sor or loose metal in your oil and noticed when going through torque converter... only a guess.
When was the last time your auto got a service?
all i know is its had every service done by Holden on time apart from the 70,000k and 100,000k service, so if holden service the transmission on any services it would have been done, other then that i wouldn't really know. Im going to book it in tomorrow for a service and see what happens after that.
Get your exhaust mounts and mufflers checked, often it's something simple like that.

but why would it only rattle when in D not any other gear...
as the engine somtimes twists when outputting torque, i'd have the mounts checked also ** Automatic Gearbox has a mount at the back with the exhaust.

took it to Ultra Tune in Mordy, young guy chucked it up on a hoist for me and had a look around and i listen, turns out it was the bracket from the exhaust where it bolts onto the cat, as the exhaust vibrates it was vibrating against the bolts holding it to the cat, he put in some cilicon stuff and bam rattle was gone, free of charge, he was a nice guy![]()
