Noise at start up

Hi I have a 2001 VT v8 5.7 A4 and when i try to start it it makes a tick sound at the front of the car when i turn the key to the ignition the sound comes it only ticks once when i realease the key and turn it back to ignition the same sound comes so i just turn the key alot of times tick,tick,tick,tick,tick,tick,tick until it cranks and starts

does anyone now what the problem is

Your starter motors shit itself mate. Have it replaced.

but it works after alot of ticks so i think the starter motor is fine

Then it gradually gets harder to start

clean your terminals and check your leads to starter as well id do that b4 changing out anything
