Loud Clunking/Grinding

Hi Guys,

It seems that this really only happens when i'm in reverse, and putting my foot on the brake about (reversing down a tiny hill/drive way, i hear a rather loud grinding noise which almost sounds like metal on metal, i have checked all my break pads and every seems to be fine, seems to be defientely coming from the back half of the car

any guesses?

Manual or auto? if its manual are u already neutrally moving backwards when u clutch and put it into reverse? most cars will make a sound if u do, if its not that im unsure about automatics, could be a problem with your differential maybe?

it is an Automatic 97 VT Calais. V6.

is it only when you are reversing out a drive away or when you are going fowards as well at all.

could be your mudflaps scrapping when backing out mine does it cause its a lowered car.

how is your suspension upto date???

i have a feeling that it could be the suspension, it is only whilst reversing, not a sound whilst going forwards...just wondering if it could be the gearbox?
