Default vx s pack clutch issue

    gday guys and girls,
today I was giving my clutch abit of hell I could tell this becuase there was a very promident clutch smell afterwards. Now when taking off my car shudders quite abit. Also even after about 3 hours of letting my clutch cool off after a normal drive there is still a very strong clutch smell.Iv put the car in 3rd gear while only doing about 15km/h to load up the engine and I could not notice it slipping at all. also noticed that the clutch friction point is fairly high up if means anything? Do you think iv burnt out my clutch becuase ild rather get it changed now that it starting to slip badly while out driving.
any help would be much appreciated.
    thanks

ok just gone for a drive and I defintly know the clutch is gone, its not slipping or anything but the friction point is pretty much when the clutch is fully realeased.
Now for a new clutch iv read some clutch thread which were in the vx/vt faq section but have some questions.
I deffintly want something that is abit stronger than the standard flywheel, clutch setup. I
m pretty positive that the flywheel is rooted too. So I need a new flywheel and clutch.
just wondering if I just should go for a exedy hd clutch and solid flywheel or mistake me if im wrong but go with a dual mass flywheels again and also a heavy duty exedy clutch? what would be cheaper?\
any help would be much appreciated.

if its shuddering when you take off it usually means your flywheel is buggered too.
once a dual mass one is shagged, you cant remachine it or anything. if i were you i would go with an exedy HD clutch and get a balanced solid item
    will solve both problems

a dual mass flywheel has an extra mechanism between the two separate parts that soak up vibrations from the engine. basically means that your car will drive a bit smoother and less vibrations throught the gearbox etc. solid flywheels are used in heaps of cars though and are able to be used for a longer period of time but obviously a bit more vibration. alot of people just ditch the DMF for solid and I would suggest the same coz they suck haha

i replaced mine with an exedy heavy duty organic clutch + pressure plate and thrust bearing kit rated to about 400rwhp and it cost $350 so it wouldnt be too far off for yours
not sure whether it would make a difference with yours being a hydraulic setup though

I acually got a heavy duty clutch kit with solid flywheel for $600 I think the brand is highway clutch and brake. My old man uses them alot as he is a mechanic so thats the reason for the good price. I'v takes the gearbox out and my word the standard clutch was about to fall apart. Has chunks missing cracks all over the place. Also me pressure plate and flywheel were rooted. Most of my flywheel is now purple from too much heat. magaed to also snap 2 of the exaust manifold bolt while undoing them so will need to get some new studs for it. anyway only took me and my mate about 3 hours to take the gearbox out which I think isant too bad for a 1st time effort. Will be putting new clutch ext in a few days time ill let yous know how it goes.

Could someone have a look at the exhuast manfold (drivers side) and have alook at where it bold up to the head/block with the middle 2 bolts I know one side holds on the bracket for the spark plug leads but im pretty sure the other side is ment to hold up something too just cant remeber what.

finally finshed putting it all togther tonight, Went for a drive everything was fine no weird noises ext. Then later on went for another drive and it seems when acelerating with lowish revs 1000rpm only when its revving higher the noises goes away. It makes some weird noises like a rattleing/grind noise that really noticleble.Does this seem normal with a hd clutch and solid flywheel?

couold anyone please please help? After the clutch install iv also got a sloppy shifter in netural, and also in gear it feels more sloppy than it did before we changed the clutch what could cause this? Also could somebody tell me if its normal for a rattle/grinding sorta noise to occur between say about 1000-2200 rpm? it only happens when moderatly exelerating never happens if im very gentle with the exelerator.
    thankyou

in regards to your other post, your engine will sound different with a different flywheel attached to it and can change the whole note as its a whole different bit of rotating mass hanging off your crank. as for the rattle, i dont know how the actual clutch setup looks like in your car but the clutch fork may be rattling on the bellhousing... this can be caused by the little pins that slot into the thrust bearing being worn down and at certain revs the clutch fork can chatter against the bell housing. it may be very different for your but this happened in my VS V6 and thought i might just put it out there incase it helps!

thanks for the reply but when I had the gearbox appart the clutch fork was just one peice there wasent any pins in it or anything. I'v heard that the solid flywheels will rattle abit so maybe its nothing to worrie about. could anyone comment on the sloppy shifter? Would a short shifter kit fix the problem?
Anyone who currently has the stock holden dmf setup when it fails I highly recommend a solid flywheel and hd clutch the stock setup feels like mush compared to the hd setup gear chnaged taking off everything is alot more sharper.

sorry if this seems like a never ending thread but iv got never ending problem with my car. After the new clutch was install I got a rattling/knocking cound coming from the lefthand side of the car sound like its coming from under the front passenger seat. Pretty much only happens when acelerating so though maybe a rock was stuck in my side skirts (had this problem before) so took them off and there was afew rocks in there took them out took the car for a drive and its still making the bloody sound. Anyone know what it could be? im starting to get sick of this car and its weird rattles, squeaks, squeals ext.

foud out what the noise was. The bracket that holds the drive shalf on there it unijoint is about half way down was loose. tighened it up and all the sound are gone. only a sligh rattle when the car is labouring in a lower gear pretty sure its normal though with a solid flywheel.
