Hi, does anyone know where I can get a new reasonably priced air con compressor?
I live in Brisbane.
I found that my compressor was hanging by one bolt ( I suspect the last time it was regassed that the other bolts were over tightened)
I spoke with an air con place and they reckon it would cost about $1200 to replace the compressor as they guess hanging by one bolt and flopping around would have killed the compressor.
not wanting to be ripped off, I like shopping around. any help would be much appreciated. Mark
HI, thank you for that. looks like a pretty good price. much appreciated.
Do you know if its a straight forward job to throw the new one in?
Yes, it is quite easy, but you need to evacuate the gas from the system before removing the old compressor and then have it re gassed after fitting the new one. I went to and auto electrician who did air con service to have my gas removed and then I came back with the new compressor on and he re-gassed it cheaply because he was putting some of my gas back in.

I thought I was wrong once but I was mistaken.

I wonder why compressors are so bloody expensive? Must have really complicated components or something?
i got a vt compressor you could probably have i got it on a vt motor package i got no idea if its any use to you but i got no use for it as the motor is going into a vs and i left the compressor in the car so i got no use for it
Hey Mark
I am in the process of replacing my air con compressor for my VT at the moment, I was quoted $900 (in Perth) for a new aircon including gas and fitting but I have just found a new near air con compressor recently gased for $100 in the newspaper from a wrecker. I'm not 100% certain if its an easy job to install it urself, i'm currently surfing the forums to find out. But u will save urself a shitload of money... As long as ur holes that you bolt you're aircon into are still intact.
