Next time you're under your VT V6, run your fingers over the rack & pinion dust boot at its closest point to the driver's side exhaust pipe.
It's a spot that you can't normally see.
I did (nothing on TV) & found a hole burned through the plastic dust boot.
Ingress of grit & water would have destroyed the steering rack had it gone un-noticed.
Maybe it was caused by gas burning hotter than petrol?
I wonder if anybody else has found this problem; perhaps not only on VTs?
i dont think it would be the gas are you sure its a burt hole a not just the boot being old and perished.
Sorry so long.
3 cm diameter hole closest to pipe.
Remaining rubber of boot in good condition.
Can't think why else it would fail there.
Got a GEN3?
Theres a link 'VS_Omega' posted at the top of the VT-VX forum for typical faults:
Faults - VX Suspension
Steering Rack Boots (Gen III) - Some VX steering rack boots may be damaged by excessive heat from the exhaust system. VX's with extractors are more susceptible to heat damage. Revised silicone steering rack boots were released and are more durable.Well noticed tho, good nothing was on TV
