    Default Exhaust way to loud

I just purchased and installed a twin 2.5" cat back system with straight through pipes...... to make it easy it is this one
TWIN 2.5" EXHAUST COMMODORE SEDAN VT VY VX VZ V8 SS - eBay Full Systems, Exhausts, Car Parts, Accessories, Cars, Bikes, Boats. (end time 28-Jun-09 21:28:54 AEST)

i fitted it not a few hours ago and i think it is just way to loud. i reckon it is going to attract a lot of negative attention. What can i do to make it more quite any help would be fantastic

Get a resonator put in the last piece, depending on the size of the resi, depends on how much quieter it will be!

Chuck a muffler on. V6's sound awful with straight through pipes. I used to run a set of Pacies with a single 2.5" cat back, 1 muffler, no resi on it on my old car. Sounded perfect as a V6 could sound in my opinion. Nice low rumbly note to it, but not loud and tinny like some i have heard.

You need resonators on the rear to stop the drone inside. They shouldn't cut the sound too much but will turn the bark into a growl. heheheheh..... If you have factory sound deadening inside ie... carpet & underlay it should be all good then.

    Cheers...............................Pete!

Wow that sounds awsome. It is fair loud from the outside so i can just imagin what it would sound like in the cabin. Best thing to make it quiet is to add a resonator. Where would you put it on that exhaust system i wouldnt have a clue.

Thanks vpete and cobez. Now if i was to install a muffler would i have to bring both pipes into the one to hook it up to a muffler. Also how much would it cost to get a muffler for it?

Just before your exhaust tips / tip mate. They generally will cut your tip or tips off and weld them onto a resinator. It's a muffler basically. hang on i'll post up a pic of the resi on my Senator.

You have a twin system? Yes it would have to come into a twin in resinator. Wouldn't be much at all mate, maybe around (very very rough price) $80 or $90 for the resi then labour, might cost you $150 maybe?

Ring a few exhaust places and see what they say.

I have circled and arrowed the resi (VnPlayer):

Keeping in mind my car is a 5 litre, i have HSV headers into a single cat into a single 3" with a hot dog and rear resi into twin tips. That's pretty loud, it was either run a centre muffler with no rear resi, or have NO centre muffler with a rear resi. Otherwise it would have been offensively loud.

Since my centre muffler was big and scraped over everything, i had it cut out and a hot dog fitted with the rear resi to take the note down a bit drone wise.

Correct. Don't let them talk you into anything else, just say you want a rear resi for a twin system fitted.

that system looks almost identical to myne, same front end anyway, supercat mufflers in the middle the rear had a big resi that made it sound good, and had a nice note for cruising

this is as in now, without the rear res, twin 3" from diff back

sounds awesome especially at rev with the charger

Keeping in mind though man, you can get away with a bigger exhaust, you have forced induction, you wouldn't put such a big exhaust on a stocker 6, you would lose power.
