Arrow Help fitting new head unit to a VX

    Hi all,

I'm trying to fit a new head unit into a VX Calais and was after some ideas on how other people have fitted theirs.

I've tried to use the mounting bracket/cage that the head unit comes with. But it will not fit properly, and its such a tight fit that it bows a little and the head unit will NOT fit into it.

    Any help is greatly appreciated.

    Thanks

when i had mine years ago... i drilled small holes into the sides so that the mountin bracket u have there .. the tabs can go into to lock it in... then i think if u put the single din shelf underneath it it should straighten up a bit enough to get it to lockin there

The head unit wont fit into the bracket as its bowed as the top, see the pic.

I was wondering how else to do it? Is the recommended way to pull the dash apart and drill some holes in the factory bracket and just screw the head unit into that?

    Cheers

To me that single head unit pocket hasnt been installed right looks far too deep should be flush with square so its a snug fit!

you need to get a small ball pein hammer and widen the original opening towards the back of the dash. you will find that even without the cage the unit will not go all the way back. the opening is slightly tapered. the cage will eventually fit then i drill 2 small holes, 1 each side of the cage and poprivet it in. just be careful if you are running amps and need rca connections, because if the connectors are moulded to the back of the stereo it won't fit in the top half without cutting it away at the back for some model stereos.

This is how I did mine. Having it mounted lower gives you alot more room. I have all the cabling for two sets of rca's, a bluetooth unit, a nav unit , usb and all the standard wiring in behind there with no mod at all.
If you want to mount at top id say follow tri51's instructions but it doesnt look like you've got that cage in right.
Did you bend it putting it in because it looks outta shape?
You shouldn't have to drill or poprivet anything, just push the tabs out once you've got it in the right spot.
