VT v6 auto wagon - Which Mods?

What mods are going to be most effective for fuel savings?
Think its got a 2.5 exhuast and a kn panel filter, only other thing ive got on the cards atm is a ecu/memcal

Where in nz should i get a good ecu for cheap thats going to save fuel? or should i leave it standy?

Another thing id like is if i put it down into 1 that it would stay in 1st not just change once it hits red line? would love a manual conversion but to much $$$$

Any ideas?
