gday fellas, i was putting up my window the other day and i could hear a slight scratching noise as it almost reached the top, then i looked at the glass and there is a couple of slight scratches....i tried to look to see if there was anything stuck in the rubber but i couldnt see anything...does anybody know what it could be? is this a common problem?
My August 98 VT Calais was doing this too. It is a known fault in VT's particulalrly the early series one models.
Amazingly if you buy a new set of chrome window strips from Holden Spare Parts, they still have these "unmodified" clips which cause the scratches.
This attachment might help you, it worked for me (i replaced all my glass, did this mod, haven't got any scratches since).
The other possibility - grains of sand stuck in the felt edging that presses against the glass. Take off the window strips, clean them with a brush & soapy water, and refit.

According to that page i posted (i won't say where it came from) even my Aug 98 model shouldn't have them. All VT/VX and even VY's i've checked this out on at wreckers have the "unmodded" clips, i don't know why.
Anyway it may not be the cause of your problem - it would be scratches in three places only (outside, each end and in the middle) so if you have one on the inside, i got no idea.
Take the window strips off and give them a clean. You will be surprised at the amount of crap that builds up on them.
there are three types of people in the world , those who can count and those who can't
The back doors have one phillips screw at the end closest to the front door, remove that (under a small black flap), then gently lift up the seal starting from either end. Don't use too much force or you might bend them. Refit by carefully lining up the screwholes at the front (so you can get the screw in etc) then press down.
For the front doors, the strips can be got off with the mirrors left on (which need the door trims removed to remove mirrors), although it is slightly easier without the mirrors but not necessary. Same as the backs, but the one phillips head screw is at the end closest to the back doors. When refitting, carefully slide the front end under the mirror seal first (make sure the seal doesn't catch/bend) then press down.
