Cool VT Commodore Tyres Wearing Rapidly

    Hi,

I own a VT Commodore Station Wagon which has gone through 2 sets of new tyres in the last 18 months. The car has been used for long trips, but actually hasn't travelled that many kilometres. Even though wheel alignments/balances are performed each time the new tyres are fitted, they still wear on the outside, whilst remanining good on the inside. I currently have FireHawk 215/R15 94H on the car.

Could someone please recommend what tyres would be most economical to put on this car??? And maybe what might need fixing.

    Thanks

    Jeep

Who is performing the alignments? Alot of places will not give correct caster & toe-in adjustment which will wear your tyres unevenly (never get one from Bob). Are they feathering or just wearing? If they are feathering then it could be due to cornering and your camber settings. The first thing I would do is go to a proffessional wheel aligner and get an alignment. Personally I go to a local Pedders who deal with alot of race and rally cars and they always do an excellent job - but like all chain stores, Pedders may not be the best bet in your area.

I'm assuming it's your front tyres here as I've never heard of a car with IRS wearing outside edges!

I fully agree with jnine on this, but as an extra suggestion about a cheaper brand, i use GT Radials, they are not a hell of a lot cheaper, but they are nonetheless and i get really good k's out of them too, especially the front ones. the back ones pop for some reason...

Thank you guys for your suggestions.

Yes, it is the front tyres, and I did previously buy my tyres and have a wheel alignment at Bob Jane.

I have now bought 4 new GT Radials for the car and I am getting a wheel alignment performed Monday.

Hopefully, this time I will have my tyres for a little bit longer!!!

    Cheers

Let us know how you go! My other half and I have a tyre business and we've seen it too many times where people have very bad tyre wear even though they have had aligments (even from dealers)
