So me and my roommates have decided to go on a road trip from Melbourne to South Australia.
Dont bother trying to change my mind, because I've already made reservations for somewhere to stay for a night
What I just want to know, while its only around 2,000k's there and back I want to be sure that I have covered all bases.
Car has been fine never had a problem with it, im the 2nd owner and ive had it for the last 80,000km's that its done. Its on 230,000 atm its last service was... 50,000km's ago but since then, both front and rear pads have been changed, oil was changed last week, did the change of my trans fluid and filter, coolant was last done about 25,000km's ago since then just have been adding and topping up where needed (which has been hardly ever). Rotors shudder a bit@ high speed braking but i dont think thats going to be an issue.. Should there be anything else i should be knowing/checking before taking the long drive?
I know a few might say, go get it checked by a mech but its $100 id rather not spend as ive already spent loads on this few days away.
welcome to Adelaide ehhehe
the only thing i would grab is a belt incase
make sure ya got water and oil check tyres and pressure
put 10% windex in washer bottle youll need it to clean bugs off
dont drink while driving and get lots sleep b4 ya go and have a safe fun trip
its also not 2000 k's its only 750ish each way
once ya here let us boys know and we can have a mini meet
needed for trip
1x esky
3 cartons of grog
1x sober driver
a radiator hose,a fan belt ,spare tyre, roadside assitance in case you need a tow
1x camera
Just some petrol.
It's a nice long straight road. If your car's half good there's no need to fill the boot up with spare parts, i never do. You're going to be on a main road anyway, not like you're gonna be going along some dirt track to get there.
mate i'm going down to phillip island for the weekend, leaving tommorow morning, did not think of any of this. i guess its no where near as far as SA lol, but the only thing i did was fill her up with petrol, and serviced it last week (only because it was due for one lol).
shouldn't have any issues. i used to take the VL over a couple of times a year and never had any issues. One trip i ran late and did the drive home without stopping.
Few k's shorter from here, about 840 or so.
Just check the condition of your spare wheel incase of a flat and that you have all the tools to change a wheel if required.
Other than that no worries just have a blast
lolwere staying at a local caravan park to cbd, so we can go to some clubs... any suggestions? all tyres are about 5,000k's old and there in good cond.. I have an -old- belt i had before i changed to my new one which I'll just take which should do incase the very unexpected happens.
Well... were off in a few hours. Wish us safe drive! Adelaide here we come!
I just did this over the weekend, except the other way around (adelaide to melbourne and back) lol Friday to Wednesday. Its a pretty easy drive, I just took some oil and coolant just in case, made sure all the tyres were in check.
If you haven't done it before, make sure you do the great ocean road. We came back via the great ocean road and imo its worth doing.
If your brakes shudder a bit with high speed driving, you might suffer from some brake fade coming into Adelaide as you come down the freeway, so take it easy and keep a safe braking distance ahead of you.
Also, don't bring your fruit fly or swine flu with you across the border (however feel free to bring the Crown Casino and MCG/Etihad Stadium/Rod Laver Arena)![]()
Lol, were back home! it was great, awesome drive it was. We all enjoyed the trip well worth it, a change to what we normally do every thur, fri and sat.
Didn't have any car issues, infact it was pretty good so I'm happy.
Something I noticed... Adelaide its very clean? ... Road Conditions very.. smooth compared to Melbourne, I also noticed that speed cameras arnt the flashy ones? They look like actual video recording cameras I felt like I was been watched all around CBD.
All in all... very neat and tidy city drivers are really laid back didnt see many police infact.. maybe 1 or 2 and I was driving around quite alot friday night cbd. Nice scene... If i didnt have too much in melbourne id probably consider moving lol.
Adelaide CBD is one of the most surveillanced cities in the world, there are camera's everywhere which is what I think you saw at intersections, just traffic monitoring cameras not actual speed/redlight cameras (as our speed/redlight cameras are still flashy ones).
Adelaide is a great place to live, just a shit place to visit because we have nothing to see.
good to see ya had a good time yeah its clean compared to lot other places as for the roads you must be blind its pothole city
maybe next time stay longer than 5 mins and get to see us local hoons![]()
Last time I went to Adelaide I was in my VN V6 and a guy in a 351 XB pulled up behind me in a tiny little street and then floored it. Smoking the tyres past me and all the way down the street, as he went past (we both had open windows) he screamed GET A V8!!!!!!. I took that young lads advice
