I would like to get a pair of eight inch subs to replace the crap ones I have put in my parcel shelf, supercrap and Ricerbarn don't stock them in my town to my knowledge where do you reckon they'd be available?

Just contact any self-respecting car audio reseller and ask for a pair of 8" free-air subwoofers.

Could these be run off standard vy h/u without amp as my current 50 watt ones are?

Don't aim too high with the power handling of the woofers and that's a yes... Let's say 150wrms or so, with high sensitivity (92db+) - the car audio shop will know what you're on about.

Personally I'd go for something half decent + a small amp.
