Hey guys, got a VT commo its been a while now that my fuel guage has been sitting on empty with the red light on, anyone got any ideas what it might be to get it working again.
Thanks
Elia
Mine has been doing the exact same for ages, distance to empty goes to --- then starts working again eventually, then goes nuts again.
As far as I know its pretty common. Pretty sure replacement of the fuel pump is in order, don't quote me on that though.
yeah, i've been thinking fuel pump but i want to be 100% sure before i go and change it.
Id say it would b more the sender unit? not the fuel pump as thats a different unit all 2gether from the fuel gauge.

Yeah that thing, but where is it?
its inside ur fuel tank i believe and ur fuel pump attaches 2 it.

Oh fun! lol I was close.
thanks for the comments guys, so does that mean i need to remove the tank inorder to change the sender unit? or can i buy a new sender unit and replace it? also where abouts on the tank would it be as in which side or what is the easiest way to get to it?
Much appreciated
Thanks again.
Elia
New sender cost around $100 and you have to drop the tank and it's at the top.
it will be the sender 100%, replace the whole thing pump and sensor. being a vt, i wouldnt think it would be too new. drop tank out, its on the top also you will need to use a special tool to take the ring off the tank that holds it in, or use a hammer get some to hold the tank get your screw driver on it and hit away.
my guess is sender unit, but try disconnecting battery and connect again, i done this and it started working again, dont know why but it worked haha
Hey my guage reads fine till it gets low and then it will go all the way to the top and sit there till it is out of fuel. Surely someone know for sure what is happening here? Is there any mechanics out there that can give some technical advise rather than everyone guessing.
Maybe taking your car to a mechanic you will get a 100% answer, come onto a forum with many opinions and you get different answers.
My mechanic agrees with the above.... Sender unit.
