stage 2 shift kit
cost?
do they reduce the life of the transmission?
where can i get it done?
is it possible to do it at home? cause some threads say it can be done at home
is a corvette servo a must for this modification?
thanks in advance
forget stage crap, stage 2 doesn't mean stuff all from one auto guy to another.
cost ranges depending on what you want the thing to do.
usually any mod is made to work the parts harder so it will need regular servicing and stuff.
an auto place with a good rep, go to the local drags and see who's sticker is on a heaps of cars and stuff, or just ask around .where you from?
autos have got heaps of parts and i wouldn't do it unless you've got some help, it you go far enough, you'll need clutches and other things, its not a text book thing either, adjustments have to right and the auto has almost more parts than any other one component of the car, leave out a 1/8 small pin or something and you'll be changing 1 to 3 or problems like that.
corvette pistons are steel instead of aluminum so they are heaps stronger, I cracked three standard ones before the corvette and its been perfect in every car i had with them. they can handle the high pressure shift.
just remember the only reason for a shift kit is meant to be to reduce as much lag as possible between gear changes and set the gear length before it shifts up. although its fun when it steps out. you're not getting any power from it
hope that covers a few things.
about $370 for a stage 2 shift kit installed at an automatic trans mechanic that included corvett servo which gives a bit more boost when you shift. i have stage 2 and has made a big difference, i honestly dont know the difference between stage 1,2 and 3 but stage 2 is good because it can be wound up or down to suit how you want it
thanks shiftySLE and moe 019.. help was much appreciated,
im in melbourne SLE
do u know of any good reputable places?
Pretty sure all stages are fixed kits.... I'm a little confused on how its "wound up or down".
As far as i have been told it will improve the life of the trans, slow shifting= more wear & tear. Cost me $240 for the kit, had a mate do the valve body for $100 and DIY the rest. The directions that come with the Transgo kits are pretty well explained, but all the bits and pieces freaked me out. Corvette servo is preferable, but not a must, about $110 or you could go Billet servo for $320.
what part are you in, do you have a budget in mind, coz you can go basic to crazy but you have to know how much money you want to put into it, $300 or $3000, obviously the lower end for a street car, let me know and I'll see who is closest to you
are you/have you got engine mods because if you are thinkink a hi stall, now is the time to do it. Not that yoy have to but crazy take off speed, and of course, you'll use more juice, a not so good side to it.
