Hi, after a trip to fremantle yesterday, my cars exhaust note suddenly changed whilst driving, and if you let the revs drop it will stall regardless of speed. Now there was some fairly rough roads, and I was wondering if this may have thrown something out.
The car will drive given you keep the revs up, and ride the clutch a little, which so far has resulted in that awful burnt clutch smell. Ended up getting the car towed home.
The car will not start without pumping both the accelerator and clutch at the same time.
So far have thought it could be the CAS, cam sensor, maybe fuel pump, because it sounds like the engine is being starved a little.
any ideas as to what this is?
could it be the lobes on my cam going?
the car will be going to the mechanic on monday to have it checked, but just want some peace of mind that it isnt going to cost me thousands to fix and that theres no engine damage.

I've seen this show up as a melted/cracked PCV hose. I'd also check the piping between the air flow meter and the throttle body.

thanks mate, is it likely this could actually be a result of shitty roads?
Yeah absolutely! The duct-work behind the AFM could come apart if there were a loose hose clamp, just as the pcv hose could come apart if it's already damaged (most are from heat).

pity I only know the basics of an engine, im no mechanic, ill have to get a professional to look at it for me.. or my dad.
is it in easy fix mate?
Yeah both are, you can check the intake piping yourself quite easily, just try to pull each join apart lightly to check for loose clamps on the intake pipe. Meanwhile I'll try find the location of your PCV hose... (It varies between models)
Edit: Make sure the air flow meter wiring is still in nice and firmly. The air flow meter itself is that square unit just after your air filter box with the little wiring loom going into it.

PCV Mod Guide
Not exactly what I was hoping for, but might give you some clues as to which hose is the PCV hose. Usually they melt and break in half right at the back of the engine, so you might want to follow it around and have a feel.

had the car in at the mechanics, had spark plugs changed, ran for a bit, now wont run at all.
mechanics are dumbfounded as to what the problem is, apparently something to do with the computer, they didnt seem to think it was anything in regards to sensors/internals/pcv.
anyone had this happen before?
just had my cylinders compression test, had 3 cylinders with no/low compression
suspected broken/damaged camshaft, anyone agree?
if it is the camshaft, i will need to have it replaced.
what are your thoughts on the comp camp 224/228 power/torque and economy wise?
current cam was a 224/230 callaway c4b cam (gts cam).
go 4 the comp cam
