Default How to spot a BT1 (ex police)?

okay so my brother is going to have a look at a VT s2 SS and the current owner says its a BT1 (ex police) highway pursuit car or something,
im not quite sure how to tell the difference.. what do we look for ID plates? is the dash different? and do they have much more go than a stock SS??

    there is a few differences
    *no traction control
*police mode on the dash(which is just the digital speddo)
*should have P on the compliance plate
*there will be a shit loads of holes in the dach etc from all the gear they had in them
*no power difference they are just a stock SS
    cheers GM

sorry but why do so many people think that bt1's the ducks guts? I would rather a normal vt ss would be wary of buying an ex cop car.

thanks GMMAD that was the info i was after!!

Simonn why would you be wary of an ex cop car?? it has only 109,000kms all we wanted to know was the differences if any, and if they had power differences just because we did not know.. we are getting it checked out at a good local automotive place..

would have thought an ex copper would have had a lot more ks than that. especially being a VT s2.

My car is an ex copper, it's only a 6 so not exactly sure what it was used for, but in the 3 years the cops had it they did 80,000ks (according to service records). It was being used in country victoria, (according to service records, it was serviced up in mildura and swan hill constantly).

Yes being in the country it would have done more k's. but in comparison, that car has done hardly any k's, unless they didn't own it for long and the next owner didn't drive it all that much.

I know people always say they are stock power wise, But. Few years ago a VY SS passed me then went around a corner, now what i herd wasn't whine from the diff or auto. To me it sounded very clearly like a supercharger. I know your thinking (nuts), But it was a supercharged sound that is very clear and something you don't mistake.
Also we all know the V6s are pretty slow in many standard cars, But, Again. Seen a VY Exec rip up the road with a detective behind the wheel and knowing what they can do this wasn't normal.
But when i see today's cars they go pretty much as you expect sound and move standard. Not long ago watched a VE SS chase a 180sx turbo and it was very quite as it blew by.

However i know a guy who had a ex cop car, and he was able to extend gears longer then standard (not a holden). Then he had to get the thing serviced and he lost that ability to hold gears well over normal speeds. They reset something.

They carry that much more weight 3 little piggies at a time, heaps of electrics also. So it's normal i think they need a little extra something to counter all that. Not like it's going to be 10-20% boost, maybe just getting back a little of what they loose with extra weight and electrics ?. Then people buy them and think, **** these ****s go like stink.

i dont fancy ex cop cars, quite a few mates of mines parents are cops and every single one of them says that nearly all of them get thrashed every chance they get when no1 is around. we all know cops dont give a crap what they do so be wary.

Problem is people sell them for $5000 more lol.

Good side is they are serviced like no other car full time.

Bad side they are thrashed abused and sit for hours on the spot running.

But again they are looked after very well. They are just not worth the price people ask.

yep i concur, i own a vx ss ex copper, never again, issues issues issues, its all been fixed now but i have spend a fortune on it, wheel bearings, diff bearings, the lsd was so tired it may have been a standard single spinner, synchros on 2nd and 3rd are rooted, rear axels were shot and a buckled rim. i did get mine for about 4 grand less than the average vx ss was going for, i paid 15k for mine 18 months ago, they seemed to be going for about 19 for similar ks as mine so it hasnt been all bad however.

fixed everything but the syncros but spent a fortune and it still does kind of have that thrashed feel to it, tell your brother no matter how much he wants it to leave it where it is, plenty of fish in the sea

It would be pretty thrashed mate. I'm a fire fighter and had to learn emergency services driving law exceptions and They can drive 20Km over the speed limit all the time and in an emergency while keeping safety in mind can do whatever they want. If you had an SS and those rules in your favour how hard would you drive ???

It depends on what area in the police force the car has come from, General Duties or HWP, I would touch they have be trashed. If it is a staff car or Detective or a boss's car they are treated a bit better. Most people seem to believe just because its a police car it has some special chip in them, no they don't and don't get fooled into thinking so.

Default QLD VK BT1s INFORMATION ?

    G,DAY,

IM NEW HERE, AND WAS WONDERING, DOES ANYBODY KNOW MUCH ON THE SPECIFICS OF THE QLD VK INTERCEPTOR.
HAVE HEARD THAT THERE WAS ONLY 30 BUILT FOR QUEENSLAND DUTY, IS THIS TRUE?
I HAVE OWNED PREVIOUSLY AN S.A POLICE VEHICLE (1B-079D) 308 MANUAL WITH STANDARD BROWN INTERIOR, DASH MOD AND USUALS, BUT ID LIKE TO KNOW SOME MORE ABOUT THEM AS TO WHETHER THEY EVER WENT TO HDT WORKSHOPS TO BE MODDED FOR POLICE DUTY.
I DO KNOW THAT THE VIC POLICE ORDERED ABOUT 50 "85" MODEL ALL WHITE MANUAL 4.9s WITH THE FULL TREATMENT, BROCK MOTOR ETC WITH VARIOUS ENGINE PREFIXS: VB VG AND EVEN VC (GROUP A MOTOR).
I HAVE HEARD A HANDFULL OF THE 50 HAD ALL OF BROCK MODS BAR THE SPOILERS AND DECALS AND ID TAGS, IS THIS TRUE.
I ALWAYS SEE ON OTHER FORUMS ETC, THE YELLOW VLs AND ABSYNTH YELLOWS, BUT HARDLY EVER THE YELLOW BLAZE (1D 087) TYPE YELLOW VKs OF QUEENSLAND.
DOES ANYONE KNOW MUCH ABOUT THESE?
I HAVE A QLD BT1 WITHOUT BT1 ON THE TAGS, DO I HAVE A BT1 OR DOES IT HAVE TO HAVE BT1 TO BE AN EX POLICE VEHICLE.
IT ALSO HAS BLUEY GREEN INTERIOR AS CODED ON PLATES WHICH IS DIFFERENT TO THE USUAL BROWN SCHEME, BUT HAS ALL THE OTHER USUAL THINGS THAT IDENTIFYS IT -ROUND 180 SPEEDO, HOLES EVERYWHERE IN DASH ETC ,HOLE IN ROOF, WIRES EVERYWHERE.

ARE THE VK BT1s JUST PIECES OF FLOGGED SHIT OR PRAISEWORTHY ICONS OF THE 80s?

EVERYONE WHO OWNS OR KNOWS ANYTHING ABOUT THE THE BT1 VKS, POST here.
I;D LOVE TO HEAR FROM ANYONE WITH ANY KNOWLEDGE ON THIS SUBJECT.

i own a 97 vt 9c1 5litre (ex-detective), and a mate has a vx 5.7litre (ex-highway patrol). had mine for 3 years, and my mate has had he's for 7 years. not 1 problem between us for either of our cars, and both go as hard as they should out of the box. mine only started playing up recently when i decided to throw some money under the bonnet lol. fool on me :P
as for differences, i dont know enough about my mates car to say.. but as for mine cosmetically/mechanically mine is just really a basic executive 5L with a few very minor additions. and besides hiding/patching up holes around the dash or inside the center console, they are very well looked after and serviced. whether they have had their guts flogged out or not, some cars will take it, others will fill in a pit. you take that chance buying any 2nd hand car, or any car for that matter. ex-police cars shouldnt be the seen as the black sheep, they are just the same as any other car. some last, some dont.
