The car has no way of knowing that a service was done. Here is a link to turning off the service reminder.Turn off service reminder

It says how to turn it off, but is there a way of postponing it to a later date again?

Why would you want to do that? The 160,000km service is meant to be done, at 160,000km. Not 165,000, not 168,000, at 160,000. This is programmed into the dash and it isnt anything to do with time, it's to do with KM travelled.

dont the mechanics hook up their hand held computer to the car and tell it that it has been serviced? or is that dealer mechanics?

cause i had mine serviced and i just asked him to turn off the service warning for me... 10'000k's later it came back up, did it all over again..

That's because the services should be done every 10,000 kms and the service reminder will come up every10,000kms.
You cannot tell if the service has been done by hooking up the hand held computers.

That's not what I meant, at all.

I mean after I service it myself, am I able to postpone the service warning for another 10,000kms.

Yes, when you cancel out the 160,000 'service reminder' it will re-appear after another 10,000 kilometers has been travelled.
