    Default VT power window issue

    Hey Guys,

I'm new here so I'm not really sure if this has been posted anywhere else. (sorry if it is)

My mum's 1998 VT Commodore Berlina (series 1?) is doing something strange in regards to the rear power window behind the driver. It still works (sort of) but it won't go down very far. By that I mean that it goes down about 15cm and then practically jams and won't go down any further. It still goes up of course.

But just last week my brother attempted to get it past the 15cm opening, and pushed the window down with hands as well as pulling the power window 'down' button. He was successful and got it to go past the 15cm opening except it wouldn't go back up again.

I wasn't home at the time so my mother took the car to the mechanic and he somehow got it back up (manually or auto I dunno) but he got it up. He also snapped a big rectangular looking?, black plastic bit that's located near the door handle. That broken bit can't be seen now as it's on the back side of the plastic panel.... but there's nothing super glue can't solve.

So basically my question is can I fix this issue? Is it more likely the motor that's on its way out or is the relay faulty or are the window regulators bent in any way? (I've heard that I have to oil them or something?)

    Thanks.

my mate had the same problem with his rear passanger side in his vx, i dont know that much about power windows, id probably get a specialist to have a look at it unless someone on this forum knows anything about it.

Open up the door trim and have a look at the runners. Power windows dont cope with pressure very well, so if theres any dirt/grim on the runners "clamping" the glass, it wont go down. So give that a shot. Get an air compressor in there with some degreaser to get it all cleaned up, then put some lithium grease on the runners.

If that doesnt work and the motors stuffed, just replace it. You can pick the motor/assembly up for $50ish and replace it yourself in about 15 minutes. Very easy to do on rear windows.

    Default window problem

My VT has manual windows , and the problem is when i try to wind up or down my window it is very stiff and hard to wind, it gets harder over time and its now up to the point where its really frustrating and nearly impossible to wind it up with both hands and the winding knob often pops off if i push it. what do i do ?

Update: Ive taken my car to an Automasters and the guy said it costs $400 to repair the window problem, they said it needs a new window regulator..either that or just get another door from the wreckers. I asked the guy why he cant lube it or something and he said he cant and that its totally stuffed but he barely looked at it anyways, i checked the regulator myself after and the chain has absolutely no grease or whatsoever on it ...i am going to attempt to put some grease on it and see what happens. Im doing this so i can get the problem done and over with and get electric installed at a more convenient time.
