I just got a Vu SS and have a couple of minor questions..if anyone can set my mind at rest..
1) although not anything nasty..I can hear a bit of noise from the 6 speed manual trans..i drove another which also had a bit of noise..so i am guessing its normal to hear some slight noise coming through from the gear surround..is there any good way to muffle this?
2) The engine has the OTR and the mafless tune..I only drove a few K's and the motor seems
pretty hot when I opened the bonnet..temp gauge was fine..and there were no problems.... Do these motors tend to run pretty hot?
Thanks for any info.
Scott.
na ..its not anything that sounds nasty..just sounds like the gearbox doing its thing..I should say.. I have very good hearing (I am an audio engineer)..
#1. yes T56 are i little noisy that is normal
#2. if its under half on the gauge its fine
cheers GM
#1 if your car is in neutral and you press the clutch, does the noise go away after a second or so and come back when you release the clutch again? or is it the kind of whine you get while driving, the wine is ok, thats normal, the grindy noise you might be getting when in neutral could be an input bearing, mine does it, no biggie really.
#2 yes the ls1 gets hot, on a hot day sitting in traffic, the heat can come up through the floor like a hot box, dont fret mate. take the turtle shell engine cover off if you havent already
I agree with the above replies. Mine whines a bit in 2nd and 4th gear and the engine gives off loads of heat. On hot days when sat in traffic you can see a heat shimmer on the bonnet.
Thanks for the info..really makes me feel a lot more at ease.
The leather gear boot could do with being replaced..so.. I think I will replace it with a good quality one (if anyone knows where to source one and how to fit please feel free to tell me) ..and maybe put some sound proofing in the cavity at the same time (I guess this wont harm any thing as long as the gearstick moves freely?)
As far as the engine heart...perhaps the monaro style boonnet would be a good way to go..maybe with some small fluted vents at the rear to let heat escape..as well as the inlets???
I also noticed no type of insulation on the underside of the bonnet..would this help with the heat?
cheers
Scott.
