gday guys, A few months back I had a valley gasket go on my ecotec fixed it no worries and since then I have had no oil in my radiator, Took alook at my radiator today and there was a brown residue on the cap did not feel oily and when I put my finger down the filler neck there was brown stuff settled on the bottom. It also just looks like rusty water and has no oily feel to it. After I done the valley gasket I flushed out the radiator afew times. Where do you think this brown crap is coming from? seriously hope the valley gasket it no stuffed.
Could be crap that has broken loose and come through, just flush the radiator again and see if it comes back straight away, it may come back but not as bad, keep doing it till its clear for at least a week then run coolant and keep checking it till its all good.
thanks for that mate il do what you said and report back soon
no probs, flushing it a few times can only help anyway.
it can be caused from runnin ur car on water not coolant
thanks but no the car has always been ran on coolant.
maybe its time to get a new radiator
what makes you say that? The radiator is fine.
theres half a chance its from those little bricks that holden and some service centres tend to add to the coolant to "help lube the water pump seal" thats coming through, some of it may have settled and when u flushed the car its come unstuck from where-ever and come through the radiator...
Financial Crisis? What crisis? Fuels cheap and so are parts. I dont see no crisis.
hopefully your right.
yer just flush it out again. take both hoses off the radiator off and put the garden hose in the bottom opening of the radiator then fill around it was a rag the just turn the hose on till the water coming out the top opening starts coming out clean, then put it all back together and run a flush thorught it. then dump the flush and redo the coolant
ive been having the brown crap coming through my radiator aswell..
the mechanic i saw said it was oil in the coolant - meaning i had blown one or so heads..
but recently my bf looked at it and said that it was rust because the idiot that last serviced the car only put water into my radiator.. i have flushed it a bit and then put some fresh coolant into it, still coming up with some brown crap..
thanks for the help on the same problem... fingers crossed its only rust..
take it to get flushed propley at a radiator shop it will be the only way it gets cleaned propley
Not a good sign. Could be intake manifold gaskets or head gaskets.
Check you engine oil for water.
