Hey all,
Recently had the car (VX berlina LS1 wagon, A4) serviced at local NRMA, and had the coolant flushed (was due) and it was replaced with a coolant called zerex G-05. All seemed sweet until we noticed that the coolant was green, instead of the usual red. So I contacted Holden, who basically said to piss the stuff off and go back to red dexcool, sooner rather than later. So I took the car back to NRMA, and I had them completely flush the system (against their reccomendations), and replaced the G-05 with Tectaloy XP7, which they told me was a replacement for dexcool (on the container it basically says "suitable for any vehicle that uses red coolant from factory" which pretty much means only GM).
Anyway, when I asked the bloke why he didnt just use the red shit in the first place, he said because the red stuff is f*cking water pumps/hoses and alot of gen 3's have been experiencing problems just recently. He assured me that the G-05 works just as well but is less damaging. Has anyone else heard of these problems? And who am I supposed to believe? cause other than this, the NRMA dudes seemed pretty good/knowledgeable.
Thanks
James
I have a GEN 3 & run the normal green coolant in it for the last 3 years.. never had a problem.. Also run the green coolant in all the v6 - the tablets....
Holden coolant is just big load of crap they try and sell ya.. Most aftermarket coolants are equal to or above OE specs anyway....
Been using the same coolant at work for 10 years on the same customers vehicles and non of them have had a prob with the cooling systems...
My Gen 3 came with green coolant from a holden dealer :-)
Was all new fluids in it when i bought it but had green coolant in it ...
Had the red Dexcool in my GENIII for the past 8 years and had no problems, was changed once at the 5 year mark as per the service book. I'd stick with the genuine stuff.
Are they still running the red Dexcool in the VE V8's?
