    Default Stopping static electric shocks

About 2 weeks ago my ute started to give me a static shock everytime I got out and closed the door after driving.

What causes this and how do I stop it?

You can but a strap designed to get rid of the static. It is connected to the body and drags on the ground. Any auto accessory place would have them.

    Thanks for the suggestion though
The siatic is usually caused buy your clothes rubbing on the seat, wearing cotton instead of nylon or polyester will probably get rid of it. The static is worse in the colder weather. Failing that, you could put one of those strap under the centre of the car where no-one will see it

doesnt it have something to do with the clothes you have on and the interior of the car?

synthetic lined seats with clothes that i wear in my parents car gives me a shock.. but my car doesnt.. it has velour.. or w/e it is.

and apart from maybe seat covers.. there wouldnt be a lot from that silly looking strip thing.

maybe you need a strap from your seat to the chasis lol. or try touching something metal in the car every time you stop at lights ... but in a plastic commodore interior metal can be hard to find.

But I like wearing my nylon hotpants!

Come to think of it, it does only do it with my work trousers. I'll have to get some decent quality ones rather than the cheap Lowes ones.

grab the door before you put your feet on the ground and hold onto it while you get out will normally stop it.as said above its normally due to clothes etc rubbing on the seat

Yeah, they did a study about that. Younger people tend to get out of the car without grabbing onto it and older people tend to have to grab onto something, usually metal to achieve this simple task. Consequently, younger people get shocked more than older people. I guess it's just a fact of life.
