hey guys,
Took my Mum's XU6 in to a Holden dealership for its 120,000 km service and all was fine, got home and left it in the driveway for 4 maybe 5 days before i drove it (As parents are overseas now) and when i started it up, it could barely hold an idol and was really rough.
thought it might be something to do with the battery not charged so took it for a good long drive and brought it back. next day went out to start it again and same thing, can barely idol and rough. so took it for another drive and while sitting in macca's drive through, it coughed and spluttered and kicked the engine light on.
I'm wandering what i can do about this problem as it didnt happen before the car went in, but it has maybe been 2-3 weeks since it was in for service, as i have been away also.
any ideas what the problem could be and what to do about the dealer?
P.S. it has a 3 month old battery. not years old

So does it do it when only cold or after it's been running for a while as well? What did they do for the service? They may have replaced spark plug leads in the wrong order, overtightened spark plugs causing them to crack and then arc.
This is the reason why I do things myself and don't let a Holden dealer touch my car. Either way you should take it back and argue the point.

yeah only when cold, but the engine light came on when it was running hot. the rough idle goes away when warm but that was strange when it coughed and the engine light came on.
it was just a full service. i dont know exactly what they did it was just the 120,000km service.

If you haven't tinkered with the car after the service take it back! But pop the hood and just have a look around make sure all the hoses are tight and connections are in properly but don't start ripping stuff off. Did it start doing this the day after the service or a couple weeks down the track?
it got home fine when it was still warm, but the next time we started it when it was cold it was like this. havent touched anything.
just got it home fine, then everytime since when it is cold it will barely hold an idle.
once it is driving it is fine, but when idling when cold, it is really rough.

If you got the engine light on the dash then more than likely the computer has stored an error code. In the VS checking for errors codes is as simple as using a paper clip. VX shouldn't be that much different. At least once you know what the error code is you can look it up and see what the problem is.

ok now there is another problem. the key will not unlock the doors to the car now. have to manually use the key to unlock the door.
when i do get into the car the alarm light stays full on not flashing and the alarm doesnt go off.
until i try to start the car, then the alarm comes on while the ignition is on, but goes back off when the ignition is off.
please help, i cant start the car now and cant get it back to the dealer?
the battery is new so it cant be that. immobiliser?
