Default Can you drive with revs too low....????

I all..... thanks for having me aboard.....

I bought a VX (? - 2001) SS a week ago; and I've just been told not to use 6th gear... (it's obviously a manual)

On the freeway from Gold Coast to Brisbane it's sitting on 1600 revs at 110kph and I've been told it's too low. Ie' the engine would be labouring and needs to be reving higher.

Is this true (I'm a not mechanically minded); and why build them with a six speed as a road car if you can't use it?????

I understand what labouring an engine does and how it feels/sounds; but on the freeway it seems ok.

Thanks for reading and replying as this has concerned me and generally pissed me off.

If you're going up a hill then drop it down... you can feel when the engine is labouring.

But the LSX engines are more than happy to just cruise at a constant speed sittnig on 1600rpm odd.

But yeah... 6th gears is there for highway cruising.
