    Default Alternator?

I'm fairly sure my alternators gone.

Driving home from basketball last night (20 min drive) the battery light comes on, as i'm driving along the lights start to dim ever so slowly, then the ABS and Trac control turn off, then the stereo and gps turn off, then the speedo turns off and the check engine light comes on.

Take the train to work then go buy a new battery, go to put the battery in but figure I'll start the car first to see if it fires up.. and it does no worries, turn the lights etc on no problems, no battery light but the check engine light stays on.

    Figuring its the alternator

its a series 1 supercharged VX

Check the charge rate with a multimeter if you have one if not go into the hidden menu on the display and check the charge rate there....

If that was checked on the battery with a multimeter, then yeah that sounds like your alternator, idle voltage should be at least high 11. If the same thing happens in a coupla days of driving as what happened to the previous battery then you'll know fur sure, but that voltage pretty much says it all imo.

Press the mode and up buttons at the same time and hold while starting the car. Keep pressing mode till you get what you want.

Idle voltage should be between 13,8-14.2v for most cars Commodores included...

Do 2 tests just to make sure check once at the battery & then check at the back of the Alt to make sure there is not a wire broken between the battery-Alt

yeah sure was, allthough didn't end up needing it, as the plug on the back of the alternator had just corroded off.. ended up costing $2.10 to fix
