Default VT Commodore Sway Bar Link Replacement

The sway bar link rubbers are shot on my VT. Tried to replace with car on stands but after undoing nuts there is not enough clearance to remove. Could force it out but there would be no way I could get new one back in. Wheels are removed. Stands are on engine crossbar.

Try turning the steering wheel to one side and see if it makes a difference, should straighten the link up!
    Cheers, Mig.

as MIG.29 suggested turn ur wheels, and if u need extra, grab a tyre lever or crowbar and jam it between the suspension and pull down, it should give u enough room.

Loosening the sway bar bushes would also give you a bit of room, but from memory we didn't do that when I replaced mine.

If I was you I would change the sway bar to a VX one or the link pins to z ones. I changed my sway bar bushes about 3 times in 3 months. I now have z ones and all is sweet but I have been told vx is the way to go.

For the record I don't hammer my car. 1 set was changed by holden, 1 by me and another set by a mechanic I know. Not sure if I had bad luck but I have been told VT links are crap.

also you should losen both sides at the same time, as this will give u more play in the links.

Sincere thanks. Will give it a go tomorrow when the weather is a bit more friendly. I have done it on a VP but this wanted to give me a hard time. Thanks.

VT links are crap.. have both wheels off the ground, and as mentioned before, turn ur wheels and put a bar in to lever the sway bar down a bit.

Z bars and nolathanes... or VX/VY swaybar + links are the go
    less timing.... more boost!

Undo both top links, bar will drop down. then remove the bottom links, replace bushes leaving the bottom ones a bit loose, so you can move them a bit, this makes going back through the top holes easier. Then tighten up the top and bottom links.
I tried it doing the bottom ones first but the stabiliser bar hole was on too much of an angle for the link to go through.

    Hi,
When replacing the sway bar link on one side (ie: passenger side on my car) do i need to replace the driver side also?
    Cheers

You should replace both sides. The easiest way is to put the car on axle stands. Undo the nuts top and bottom and remove them and the washers. Put your jack under the lower control arm (just behind the disk rotor) and jack it up gently. You will notice the link at the top will gradually drop and clear the strut and just lift out. Simple.
