door hinge problem

hi i have a vt and when i open the drivers side front door it makes a really loud crack three times, im guessing its something to do with the hinge with the three indents on it. has anyone else had this problem? does anyone know the part number from holden?

its the check strap or the movable part that allows the door to stay open half way and then at fully open.
if you call motor traders they will have them cheaper than a dealer

sounds like the retaing bolt that holds the check strap to the 'A' pillar is loose, tighten it up.

I have that problem too. its been there since i bought the car 3 yrs ago, its annoying but doesnt affect the door opening in any way.

I had tha same problem and was told by the local repair bloke that the over aggresive nature of the contour of the check strap will eventually cause the welding to fatigue break off where the bracket is fixed to the door pillar.
So I fixed it by smoothing down the sharp corners of the notches with my 4" angle grinder fitted with a sanding disc to give a more smoother action. Leaving the last one so as to still firmly hold the door fully open when occasionally required. No problems since!

thanks guys, how do i get it out? ive only had the door panel off once to put speakers in and looked like there wasnt much room in there

No need to take the strap out johnno, there is just enough room to get at the bugger with the grinder.

i had the same problem.

just sprayed a bit of wd40 on the hinge fixed it right up

Had same problem and was told that you can unbolt the black h'inge in the middle and swap it round.
Anyway did this and it did resolve the problem for a few months until came back again.

anyway i took the door panel off and removed the arm with three ridges on it, got stuck into it with an angle grinder and now its nice and smooth. problem solved, thanks guys

The bit in the door that the arm with 3 ridges connects to broke, meaning if someone swings my car door it will swing back and not stop causing damage.

Any solutions?
