    Default Banging noise ??

Hey guys, figured I would ask here to see if anyone has had the same problem.

Going over bumps in the road, their is a loud banging noise coming from the back somewhere. At first I figured it must be the shockies, but the more I hear it, the more it seems to be a door?

Bet I sound insane but it's there and it's annoying the hell out of me!

    It's a VT...

Only got it a week ago so I'm still getting used to new sounds but this one drives me mad. Steering has a weird clunk noise when ya take off too.

It could be the exhaust moving around. Check the rubber mountings to see if any are broken.

Did you get it checked out before you bought it?

Could be a heap of things.

It could be the exhaust, it could be a door, it could be the diff cradle or shockies. There are a number of things that it could be, but without physically looking, it is too hard to say on a forum.

Yeh I had it looked at but you know how people treat females

I drove it around for almost an hour before deciding on that one and it didn't have any noises then. I'll take it back down to where I got it from and tell em but I doubt they'll do anything.

    Thank you

Put your head under the back and look at the exhaust. There should be two rubber mounts holding it to the car. One of mine snapped off and was clunking around over bumps as you describe.

Nup, it's not them! It's further forwards. My kids can hear it in the back and they're telling me it's the door too. It's a real heavy solid sounding bang. God.. We're a bunch of idiots lol! It's probably no where near the door.

The steering, it kind of grinds when you turn the wheel, but only when going slow. Probably the rack.. I've had that problem in the last 4 cars I've owned. Only car that actually kept going was my VL. God I miss it.

Not having a go or nothing but it isnt something in the boot jumping around?
Friend of mine complained of same thing and didnt realise that it was just the stuff they had in the boot...

Completely sensible question and something I actually did triple check before making an idiot out of myself. (Mhmm.. I've done this before.. How embarrassing!) I even took out the spare tyre and tools and stuff (So hard to keep my potty mouth at bay here).

I called the guys at the place that sold me the car and he just laughed at me.. Tried to tell me that it was normal to hear 'noises' and that I can't expect it to be silent. Again, I'm not idiot and I know that a big bang isn't 'normal'. Nor is my damn steering that is all of a sudden getting worse. Only issue is, I go down there, and they'll tell me that it's not their problem. GRR!!!!

You guys wanna take it down for me? lol.

It can be hard to determine the source of a noise from inside the car.

Can't think of much in the door that could make a substantial noise. Loose speaker possibly, but that's about it. Sometimes they rattle, but a bang I haven't heard of.

If the car is under warranty and the dealer isn't taking you seriously, document all the contact you have with them, ask them to fix it, if they refuse get an independent mechanic to fix it and send them the bill.

hey had same problem from front door in my vt, it was the striker on the drivers door. vt strikers didnt have a black plastic mould on them. check to see if yours do, if they dont go to holdens and buy one for each door, makes the door shut better and less wind sound coming from doors. let me know if this helps, from memory they were $8 each

Thanks hun. I will do that.

I was going to say I'd record the sound, but I'm thinking it is a shockie now after pushing on the boot... It went clunk.. That wouldn't be a warranty job though would it? Oh I wish I knew more about cars.. I'm learnin quickly though!!!

This months lesson was... Never buy a Kia.

Ta chicken.. Front door I know is buggered. It rattles and yeh, sounds a little windy. Probably why I was thinking that it was the rear door doing the banging.

Could you do me a favour and take a pic so I know what your talking about? Please??

I doubt they would cover suspension, it's wear and tear.

Thanks for that I have the originals! It's definitely the door. I had the car checked out today. Pity they couldn't find where the noise from the steering is coming from.

I'll go get some of those things for the door and see if that helps!!

You guys rock.. Normally it'd take me weeks of explaining it to different people to get someone tell me to suck it up. But it's damn annoying!

yeah its pain in the ass when u go over bumps, surprising how much $32 does to the sound inside the car. you will also have to borrow or buy a star shaped screw driver or multi tool, have a look at the size you need from the two screws on the catch. also when you fit the new ones they are adjustable so tighten a little bit then shut door and get it aligned properly (or even a bit tighter as i did to stop wind and road noise) hope this has helped you

Thanks darl! I'll do that... I have most tools here.. No males around so I figured out how to do most things myself lol.

My warranty has run out already.. It was 1 month or 1000km's.. I've done almost 2000 in less than a week.
