ok so i drove my car home from work last night (about 1km) car was running fine i stopped and turned the car off and went to lock it but the remote would not work.i thought it was wierd as it opened from about 15 metres away when i left work so i manually locked it and got the spare key that would not open or lock the car either so i locked it and went inside. about 2 hours later i had to go out and the car would not crank over turn the key and it does nothing i checked all the fuses and the only one that was blown was for the cigarette lighter so i called NRMA they sent a guy out who got the car started by bridging the terminal for the start relay. so i know it is not the immobliser or the starter motor. does anybody have any ideas about what could be wrong i dont have a lot of money to spend and the guy from NRMA told me to go see an auto electrition.
sounds like your igintion switch is faulty if the nrma bridged out the starter
pull the BCM fuse under the bonnet, leave it out for 30 seconds, refit it & see if it all works again
Thanks guys i will try a few things when i get home and see how i go i dont relly want to have to go to the auto electrition if i can avoid it as it ussually costs a fortune the nrma guy thought it could be the ignition switch but i though why are the doors not unlocking with the remote if it is that. i will let you know how i go.
ok guys tried taking out the fuse and putting it back in 30 seconds later a few times like bob suggested first time it cranked for about a second and then stopped but that was about the best luck i have had does anyone else have any suggestions.
Had similar issues earlier this week while my VT was already at the mechanics. Had auto-electrician out to replace relay for radiator fan (it was staying on and flattening the battery after the engine was turned off) Mechanic called me to say key was faulty the couldn't get the car going longer than a few seconds, central locking not working etc etc. Key is only a few months old.
Checked BCM, ignition switch all relays/fuses etc but couldn't find anything wrong. They ended up letting the car sit for a bit while they worked on another and it started no problem!!!!!!! The only thing they thought was that when RACQ started the car for me that it upset the security system. Mechanic said if the jumper leads are taken off too quickly can cause an upset??
Typically now thats working. the rear passenger brake was hot/smoking after a short drive so back we go for our third trip to the mechanic in a week...
