Just a quick one, probably a stupid question, is there any camber adjustment for the rear wheels on a vt series 2 spak?
The reason i ask is i just dropped SL springs in the rear and wow there is massive camber. I am currently saving for a camber kit and wheel balance, but i want to know if there is anything i can do in the mean time to stop my tyres from getting raped
nope, no adjustment from factory, u have to install a 2point or 4point camber kit. a 4point is 2x 2point. cost for 2 point kit alone is roughly $80-120 pending where u get it from, to install if u have a hoist u can do it urself, or for labour prolly 2-3hours.
only way to stop ur tyres from waring prematurely is to remove ur SL springs, or get a camber kit asap.
As SAV mentioned ^^
Also best to drive on the kings for a week or two before you get the wheel alignment/ballance and camber kit put on.
This will allow the springs to settle and sag first.
Yeh just dropped SL's in my VT and got an alignment, front is okay but the rear is 2 degreese 34" out
how hard is it to install a camber kit?
not too hard, will help to have a manual to guide u.
the short version: remove the 2 front bolts that hold the rear arms in (roughly under the rear seat). then remove the pieces that stop it from swinging down, push out the old bushes, which the camber kit should have the puller. slot ur new bushes in bolt back up, go for an alignment.
seriously go the 4point kit, will give u the max adjustment. i did on my VS on SL's n i needed more adjustment. its worth it.
Holden recommend a 2 point kit, but when you really lower your car it doesnt help. Basically you need either a 4point kit or the rear end IRS set up from a VX S2 through to VZ.
I dont mean to hijack the thread, but its relevant!
How long can i go before my tyres start to wear like a bastard? They've probly got ~25000 kms left on them
all depends how u drive it, u could get 15,000 from the whole tyre or 40,000km get a camber kit asap.
Camber kits only help to resolve the problem they dont elliminate it.
I have had no camber kit on mine since it was lowered and I dont get the bad wear that some people do.
Its all luck really. I get some wear but its not bad.
I don't have a kit in my VX SS Series 1 and I got 45,000km from my rear tyres, never rotated them either, they did eventually start to wear on the inner edge but took a long time for it to show up, think I read some where as well that you have to make sure the kit is fitted up correctly as when the rear wheels stand up straighter if it is not done correctly you can have issues with the drive shafts moving inwards and putting excess pressure on the diff, I can't recall if it was the 2 or 4 point kit that could cause the problem.
a car thats that low, regardless of camberkit, ur putting strain on the diff the velocity joints on the axles diff cradle.. all the camberkit does is save ur rear tyres..
the VX had factory camberkit, i believe it was a 2point,
adding another 2point, which makes it a 4point, adjusts toe.
yeah ive heard from a couple mechanics that 4 point camber kits can stuff the diff which is why im going for the 2 point
The problem is that alot of people try to stand the rear wheels up perfectly straight which lengthens the distance between the axel mounts on the diff and the wheel,This was more prominant on the VR/VS model. The main cause of inner tyre wear is from excess toe out not camber.
there are three types of people in the world , those who can count and those who can't
i gotta get a photo of my rear camber so you guys know how serious it is, it was 2 degrees on fe2 springs. now its atleast 3-4 times worse
I blew a hole on the inside edge of one of my rear's with only FE2 due to camber.
Am getting SSL's in the back and SL in the front in the next month and will be going a 4 point kit.
