Hey, have a 99VT. Was out for a short drive this arvo when hubby said he could smell a petrol smell and car felt odd. Drove straight home and the rear passenger wheel was VERY HOT and smoky and really smelt(brake smell).
Rang mechanic and he said possibly handbrake cable sticking or more rarely prob with brake caliper(he has a VT too).
Has anyone had a prob like this?? Am a little over the constant repair bills on my car this year. Third trip to the mechanics in a week!!!!!!
Car has done 155000klms.. When does it end?
Have had done since june: radiator, thermo, powersteering pump, engine mounts, rear shocks, battery, few relays replaced and usual servicing and thats just what I can remember off the top of my head..
Thank heaven for RACQ. worth every penny...![]()
Could be a sticky slide or the seal in the caliper has gone hard and doesn't pull the piston back off the rotor.
i had the same problem in my old car (nissan pulsar, lol). where the handbrake cable splits, something had pulled it unevenly so when the handbrake was pulled on, one side of the split would engage while the other would disengage and then when the handbrake was off, one side would then disengage while the other engaged. so at any one time, one of your calipers is clamped on.
i had to replace the cable in the end, no big deal in a 1990 pulsar, may be a different story in a commodore though...
i hope this helped
