Hey guys,
I need help with the sound of my stock 1999 VT II S exhaust makes, It's Dual Fuel too.
It makes a scraping kindof noise when revving and sounds tinny.
To what i can hear the bad tinny, scraping noise comes from the front side of the car, towards the back and to the tip it all sounds fine.
Would anyone know why/ a cheap solution to make it sound really nice, i would like it to be a loud deep sound but im guessing that involves many $$$$.
Cheers heaps guys

2.5" cat back exhaust $250
probably cats are shot
Hey Matty,
You might find that the noise ur hearing is coming from the Y piece that joins to the headers, as they come loose over time. Or as taztassio said, ur cat's shot!
Your best bet is Pacemaker extractors, around $700 installed + 2.5" Cat back $250 which can be done at home and you'll find it being money well spent!
That's a better sound & better performance.
Cheers mate.![]()
Thanks heaps for the reply's everyone, looks like i'll have to put some money together for the pacemaker extractors and 2.5" cat back.
Cheers heaps!![]()

try ebay if your after a cheap exhaust, although i would highly recommend that you go around to a few exahsut shops to see what they can offer!
My current exhaust ^^
looks like ill need to get a cat back at the first connections right at the headers. correct?
otherwise i'll still have that resonator and the Y-Piece which i dont want.

I think u mean Cat instead of resonator at the Y piece.
If i was you, i just start off with a CAT back. Gives a nice deep note to the ecotec, then if you want a slightly better sound plus better performance slam in some pacies. I have an s pac and im happy with the sound atm but will definately chuck in some headers once i can afford it.

No problem. Just with the noise you're getting. I'd have it looked at, if the cat makes any noise at all when you give it a whack with the palm of your hand (rattly etc) then there is a chance that your cat might be breaking up inside.
An improperly funtioning cat could land you with a hefty fine from the EPA ($10,000)
Hey mate I've got a VX S and I've got a Redback 2.5" catback exhaust. Stock headers and cat.
Here's a clip of it, I highly recommend Redback. - YouTube - Redback 2.5" Exhaust - VX Commodore
A user on J/C "Not_An_Abba_Fan" says he can sort me out with a Manta System, one muffler and a tail pipe.
Whats the difference between this and if I were to go with a Redback?
Thanks

Found out Manta is the WA equivalent to Redback and it has a straight through muffler. So looks like i will be going for this.
cant wait![]()
How do you guys think i should go about's getting this cat back installed? i'm near osborne park in Perth. Should i just get a mechanic to do it? I hear its easy to do but i'm not 100% confident jacking up the car and trying myself.

good news everyone,
picked up the Manta (redback) 2.5' cat back with one straight through muffler. going to call up a mechanic tomorrow to try book it in to get fitted.
can't wait!!![]()
Quick question.......
Does anyone have any idea how much it will cost to get it fitted? hope its not too expensive.. haha

Maybe about $80, plus some welding/clamps for the joins.
Yeah it will be an hours labor. It will take them all of 10 minutes to get it fitted. So depending on which mech you take it to... expect around 80ish.
This system is designed to fit all V6 sedans wagons and utes from VT to VY including series 2. As such, Manta make the first section that bolts to the cat to suit the longest vechicle which are wagons and utes. To fit the sedan it needs to be trimmed by about 100mm I think, but you will see how much to cut off once it is up on the car.
Yep, the guy left it not trimmed and if i want to put a tip on he'll cut it back and fit the tip, but i like it how it is now. A lovely 2.5" tail pipe looks sick
Cheers heaps and HUGE credit to Not_An_Abba_Fan for supplying me with the exhaust and a big thank you to everyone who helped me along the way.
Very happy with the sound.
