hi,
i own a vt series1, 1998 acclaim that has developed a leak at the powersteering rack.
oil level in container drops about 5mm per month. not too bad a leak, but annoying.
cost for replacement quoted around $400.00.
has anyone used Lucas powersteering additive to stop small leaks at rack?
help appreciated.
Mine developed a leak about 12 months ago and i used Lucas and it has stopped leaking. It takes about a week for it to work .
there are three types of people in the world , those who can count and those who can't
thanks,
i'll buy some today.
lucas just swells the seals to stop the leak then you should flush the system when you change the p/s rack
thanks danny
mm might try that for mine untill i get some $ too get another rack. altho another rack for me is 170 exchange...
Always In Construction Mode!!!!!![]()
where do you get an exchange rack for $170?
I was quoted $700 for a brand new rack from pedders, there is some reconditioned racks being sold on ebay for $280 exchange
Check out my ride: GILLO's VT Berlina - SS Kitted - VY Sigs - Leather Interior
i was quoted around the $700 from pedders also, but i ended up getting one cheaper $450 at another power steering place around the corner. pedders told me that the place i ended up going with was notorious for just putting seal kits in and branding them as reco'd units.
i got mine fo2 250
i got mine for 250
Motor Traders in S.A. have new units on special for $330 inc GST in their latest catalogue.
Had this problem yesterday.... replaced the whole rack and power steering pump. Cost a total of $700. If you have any leaks in with power steering... get it fixed asap.
i chose to rebuild mine. just got the kit. cant get the shaft out. dont know anyone who knows how to get it out, and im finding this forum really hard to navigate. driving me INSANE!
