    Default powersteering rack leak

    hi,

i own a vt series1, 1998 acclaim that has developed a leak at the powersteering rack.

oil level in container drops about 5mm per month. not too bad a leak, but annoying.

cost for replacement quoted around $400.00.

has anyone used Lucas powersteering additive to stop small leaks at rack?

    help appreciated.

Mine developed a leak about 12 months ago and i used Lucas and it has stopped leaking. It takes about a week for it to work .

lucas just swells the seals to stop the leak then you should flush the system when you change the p/s rack

I was quoted $700 for a brand new rack from pedders, there is some reconditioned racks being sold on ebay for $280 exchange

i was quoted around the $700 from pedders also, but i ended up getting one cheaper $450 at another power steering place around the corner. pedders told me that the place i ended up going with was notorious for just putting seal kits in and branding them as reco'd units.

Had this problem yesterday.... replaced the whole rack and power steering pump. Cost a total of $700. If you have any leaks in with power steering... get it fixed asap.
