hi guys
as some may remember from my other thread where i got screwed over and ended up with ****ed motor anyways was finally well enough to do something about it so over the weekend have dropped in another motor had 108,000km now car runs perfect feels great however it is throwing up a fault
the fault code is 24 vehicle speed sensor (vss)
what does the actually do as everything is working in the car fine and running great and before i go replacing the sensor on the box is there anything else motor wise that could trip trip this error
thanks in advance
glad to have me car back on the road
cheers
Hey mate the speed sensor is a coil and magnet which at certain speeds causes different electrical pulses to occur, so for different speeds there is different pulses. The pulses get sent to the computer which usually gives your speedo reading. If there is something wrong with the vss it could cause problems with cruise control as cruise control usually runs by keeping the pulses at the same intervals. That's a pretty general explanation, so i'm happy for someone to correct me if i'm wrong, because it might be different in commodores. hope that helps
Check that the wires going to the plug are ok and haven't been damaged. On my VR the speedo was doing some weird and wonderful things as well as the auto 'cause of the speed sensor was covered in oil and crap.
Did you swap the gear box as well or is it the original?
It may just be a faulty sensor.
