Hi all
I've had my VT clubsport with the Holden 5L for a few years now and it recently overheated and blew a head gasket. I've just spent the last 3 weekends removing the heads which I am going to deliver for reconditioning tomorrow.
My question relates to the temperature gauge in the instrument panel - is this gauge run by the computer or is there a separate sensor for this gauge i.e. I know the ECT sensor screws into the front of the inlet manifold, but my limited understanding suggests there may be a separate sender/sensor unit for the instrument dash gauge. If there is, where is it located?
I've looked at the wiring diagrams in the Haynes maunal but these haven't been any help.
You're not missing anything. The VT has only the one coolant temp. sensor, the output from which is used by the instrument cluster (via the BCM) and PCM computers. The earlier models did use separate sensors for the gauge and ECM/PCM.
Thanks for the help. In that case I think I'll install one of those inline temp sensor adaptors so I can put an aftermarket temp gauge in for accurate real time temp data.
I have a VT engine in a vp commodore and cant get the temp gauge working is that because the vt temp wire has to run through the bcm
