alternator/battery light problem

ok well basicly when i turn my ignition off my battery light stays on but if i unplug the clip that goes to the regulator on the alternator it turns off if i dont do this and leave it over night it flattens my batter but if i unplug before i go to bed it and re plug it in when i go to work its fine


is the regulator stuffed?
can i simply take it off and replace it?
any ideas?

sounds like a regulator short. try replacing it. if that doesnt work, replace the whole unit
