hey people,
trying to search some stuff on shift kits, and couldnt really find what i was after.
first thing, i found a website that does shift kits for commys, Shiftkits Australia, Performance Shift Kits and Vehicle Electronics and it only cost like $70 for a stage one, so just wondering, is this what a shift kit is? and is it worth it?
and second, does anyone know any other sites that sell shift kits? like one that changes gears like manual, as in as soon as i put it in 2nd from 3rd, it will change instantly, and changing up from 2nd to 3rd, change instantly? or would getting a manual gearbox only offer this.
cheers
just go to ur local auto shop and get a stage 2 shift kit, i did and all gears change real hard esp 1st , 2nd
for ur second question are you talking about manualy changing it? if so u can get a manualised auto
yea like as if im drivin manual without the need to replace the transmission. how do you go about getting a manualised auto? and auto shop u mean like repco as such or like an autotrans shop? how much are the stage 2 kits?
just go to an auto shop and ask for a full manualised valve body, you'd probably need some strengthening in the box and are starting to look at big bucks. I'm not really up with prices as I have auto mech as mates but maybe around the $300-$500 mark for 'stage 2'.
Transgo Stage 2 shift kits sell on Ebay now and then for around the $200 or thereabouts. The Stage 3 shift kits are the full manual kits. Either one should have the servo upgraded as well with either a Billet type or Corvette type IMO. Took me all day to do mine but i tripled checked everything lol.
USE TRANSGO .There the best, dont go cheep it will cost later

cheers mate, and thanks everyone else.
whats an average trans cooler worth?
I managed to get a cooler kit from my local auto tranny guy for a kit they put together themselves fo my model. All the connections required, very comprehensive instructions from plumbing it up (for both methods, with radiator cooler, or without), and a PWR cooler. I think I paid $140ish.

Do you guys think the transgo stage 2 kit is a bit harsh for a daily work car plus towing car?
i have the transgo stage 2 kit but havent installed it yet but was thinking as im changing the diff gears to 3.89 i might just get the stage 1 kit which i think was just a new vette servo and something else plus a service.
If you guys think the stage 2 will be fine then ill fit this sucker.
just dont want to go snapping shit while towing a 1500kg trailer and car combo or doing skids everyday on the way to work.
the ute has around 125kw at the moment.
The kit will obviously put more strain on it. If you're a frequent tower I would probably suggest against it if the box isnt modified. Towing + Daily wear and tear and if you like the spirited drive you will probally start to feel the effects on the trans quite quickly.
Also to the OP, you can get the auto manualised. However from memory they are recommended for track work and are a pain in the arse on everyday roads.
if you go the stage 2 kit by itself without the corvete servo it should be fine the kit by itself is a shift improver and will tighten every gear without the servo kicking second superhard if you look into the install videos for the transgo kits they install them without the servo that is there main purpose to improve where they factory settings were lacking flaring between gears etc people just do the servo for the extra hard shift to second and its the accumulator for 3rd as well if i remember right .the transgo kit can be modified with all the parts supplied to tailor the shifs to whatever you want as well they dont have to be mega shift if you dont want

hmm interesting so you guys think install the kit but dont use the vette servo?
when you say it will improve over all, it really only improves the shift times right?
and if im sitting on the fwy when towing then its not like im gonna be taking off in 1-2 all the time, the only times ill be in 1-2 is when i leave my house and when i get to the track so it might be ok.
I might just install it and if i think its to harsh ill remove the vette servo and if its still to harsh ill sell the box and try something else.
does that sound like a good idea?
you can hold 1st, 2nd & 3rd to any RPM . kit comes with three different valves to help completely recalibrate the shifts and stops 3/4 clutch & 2nd band burnup - bang, bump or slide bump 1-2 shift. Reverse to drive cutloose / delaybang - netural to drive cutloose/delay/bang. Forward & Low/Rev clutch burnup - Long & or soft aggravating shifts. Reduces converter slip/shudder & overheat caused by slipping converter.
and thats all without fitting the servo its just the added punch that people fit

it will be a bit harsher through shifts...but like everyone has said your best to just get a stage 2 shift kit with corvette servo...only cost you about $300-$400 fitted and be a whole lot better then an electronic one..
i got the stage 2 with corvette servo, its so much better man changes pretty dam hard from 1st to 2nd and if u give it some it sends ur back end out with a nice chirp, gotta be carefull in the wet tho
