hey guys
ever since i hit a wombat head on (happened at night, dippid lights for oncoming car and it came form no wherenot happy at all, no cosmetic damage tho thank god) but its been starting to really pull to the left ever since, i got it checked out by my mechanic, he said he coudnt really see anything out of the ordinary, no bend, no kinks, everything seemed pretty straight, im thinking maybe the k-frame is a little bent (it was one big wombat) could this result in a pulling thru the steering?? its really staring to annoy me coz im moslty fighting with the car while im driving, even if there is no camber on the road, and dead flat, she will wanna kiss the gutter, please help
have you had the idea of getting an allignment at a tyre shop? $30-$40?
I would look at - and in this order
1. Tyre pressures left to right. 5 psi high on one side will make it pull to that side.
2. Something wedged in under a brake pad applying friction to one side. Ensure both inner and outer pads are moving freely.
3. Sway bar has been moved or bounced over to one side. this will apply a side load to the steering creating a pull.
4. Radius rods - Not bent but may have pulled partially into the front bush. this will change front end geometry making one wheel sit a little in front of the other. This will make a pull.
5. Bent steering arm - but not likely with your mechanic saying everything appears straight.
6. Bent Strut or strut mount eye - not easy to see if they are bent.
from what you say happened id imagine, bent steering arm, wombat hit it on its way under probably
Maybe you should try a better wheel alignment place. I dont see how tie-rod ends can bend? more likly the rack end could be bent. Check the camber/toe your self (roughly) by standing in front of the car and looking at the wheel. is it leaning in or out excessivly at the top? Or with the steering wheel straight does the wheel appear to pointing to the left or right?
was under today when doing a lil service on my starter motor coz some idiot sent me the wrong one, i found that there is a bend in one of the steel rods under there, ill put a pic up when i can, but ive found the problem, tow in and out seems pretty good by eye, but hopefully getting this thing replaced is the problem, thanks guys
Steel rods = Radius rod ? runs from front of K member to Disc ?
Tough wombat ....
could b radius rods, i got a mate who is a mechanic and he aslo mentioned something, its lost me atm, but he said it made scence, are radius rods much $$$ to get replaced?
